Hello

I'm super anxious. As I'm writing this, I'm in hospital waiting to have surgery. I've never had surgery before. I'm 20 and I'm worried about how the feeling of falling asleep feels. I also am super anxious because I like a girl but she has a boyfriend and I talk too much to her on facebook. I'm anxious and I'm trying to make friends but it's really hard and I think I push myself too much and, I don't know, I'm just ridden with anxiety right now.

Sorry if this doesn't make much sense. My anxiety is through the roof. Having trouble just focusing on typing.

Any advice would be great.

replacing the thought processes of overthinking with trusting God tends to work as a long term solution. In your present situation, just replacing one thought process with trust, through prayer will provide some relief.

Here are some recommendations for your anxiety:

Make this your mantra:
"I shall not fear because I can do all things through the Lord Jesus Christ who strengthens me."
(Philippians 4:13, Psalms 23:1-4, 2 Timothy 1:7)

Make this your mantra also:
"Shalom, Shalom, Shalom"

The word "Shalom" is a Hebrew word for tranquility with God. It helps provide peace.

I also found that reciting the Lord's Prayer helps with my own anxiety and other negative emotions such as temper tantrums. Here are two versions from the Bible:

Matthew 6:5-14 (NKJV)
9 In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Luke 11:1-4 (NKJV)
2 So He said to them, “When you pray, say:

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins,
For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.”

Ultimately, prayers to God coming from the heart are treasured by Him, as long as they are approached with humility and the right motives. Just remember: God's answers are MUCH, MUCH wiser than our prayers.

Take care and God Bless!

Being put to sleep is painless, but I can't guarantee the same if her boyfriend catches up with you.

OK relax the going to sleep part is easy, you do not have to do anything and you cannot make any mistakes so just let it happen, you will be fine and it will not hurt. The girl, well that is another situation, it could be something to get concerned about but I am certain that you will do just fine.

All that God says He will be to you - peace, rest, self-control, joy, love, etc - you can only access by conscious, sometimes moment-by-moment, submitting to God's will and way. Anxiety, worry and fear are not of God. Just read 1 John 4:16-19.

No amount of quoting Scripture, or listening to soothing music, or praying for the fear to stop is going to help you if you haven't been giving God control of you, if He isn't seated on the throne of your heart. His hands are tied, so to speak, until you present yourself to Him to do with as He pleases every day, all day. God's not going to force you to be what He wants you to be; you must agree to His transformation of you which you do by submitting to Him (which isn't something you feel you want to do, but is something you choose by an act of your will to do).

Romans 6:13
13 Neither yield the members of your body as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those who are alive from the dead, and the members of your body as instruments of righteousness unto God.

Romans 8:14
14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Romans 12:1
1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

James 4:7-10
7 Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
9 Be miserable and mourn and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to gloom.
10 Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.

1 Peter 5:6
6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time,
