I'm having a discussion with another poster @Devin Hammond that I thought deserved its own thread. I know there are many people who do not believe in anything but scripture for learning about God so this thread might not be for you.

Here are my top 10 off the top of my head that greatly impacted my life

1) The Pursuit of God by AW Tozer
2) The Knowledge of the Holy by AW Tozer
3) Knowing God by Packer
4) The Cost of Discipleship by Bonhoeffer
5) How to read the Bible for all its worth by Fee and Stuart
6) The Gospel according to Jesus by MacArthur
7) Pilgrims Progress by Bunyan
8) Fox's Book of Martyrs by Fox
9) Kingdom of the Cults by Martin
10) Evidence that demands a verdict by McDowell

What are your favorites ?

I don't have many I really like but will mention some I had good use of.

A dictionary of Early Christian believes - David Bercot

The professor in Greek, Chrys Caragounis' books. chrys-caragounis.com

The writings of the Apostolic Fathers.

What are your favorites ?

Mere Christianity - C.S. Lewis
He Is There And He Is Not Silent - Francis Schaeffer
Institutes of The Christian Religion - John Calvin
Surprised By Joy - C.S. Lewis
Collected Works of Martin Luther
Atlas Shrugged - Ayn Rand
Orthodoxy - G.K. Chesterton
The Everlasting Man - G.K. Chesterton
Collected Works of Søren Kierkegaard

Note: Ayn Rand persuaded me once and for all of the utter futility of any and all utopian "solutions" to evade the effects of corrupted human nature. The fallen human will take more than they need, and will give less than they are able. The fallen human will initiate force. The fallen human will look to his/her self and their family/friends/race/tribe/nation/club/whatever first even if it means depriving or abusing others. No human system will alter that reality. So while Rand is as far from Christian as one can get, and her odious and misnamed philosophy of "Objectivism" (aka Objectionableism) a pompous and vain attempt to escape the ultimate idiocy of atheistic materialism, her writing did in fact lead me to an understanding of Christian verities that might have otherwise escaped me.

G.K. Chesterton... what can I say? When I get to Heaven, meeting him and throwing a bear hug on him will be one of my priorities. I no of no other writer who has a better gift for rendering difficult concepts into plain language. For example:
It is a good exercise to try for once in a way to express any opinion one holds in words of one syllable. If you say "The social utility of the indeterminate sentence is recognised by all criminologists as a part of our sociological evolution towards a more humane and scientific view of punishment," you can go on talking like that for hours with hardly a movement of the grey matter inside your skull. But if you begin "I wish Jones to go to gaol and Brown to say when Jones shall come out," you will discover, with a thrill of horror, that you are obliged to think. The long words are not the hard words, it is the short words that are hard.

That's a good list. I have read most of them. Here's a book that was a real surprise. My wife had recommended it, and I was skeptical at first. But now am a huge fan. The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning (the book has not been well-received by mainstream Christianity)

I would also add The Great Divorce by C. S. Lewis (fiction, but has a spiritual application about the afterlife)

1. Jacob's Pillar: A Biblical Historical Study by E. Raymond Capt
2. Green Sustainable Economics: A Phase of divine Law, first published in 1947 by Dr. D. S. Milne.
3. The Fight for The Kingdom and Justice for ALL by R. Llewelyn Williams
4. This is a Great Mystery: Marriage Guidance, by D. P. Grafton
5. The Master's Plan by Albion S. Gaunt
6. God Calling and God at Eventide by Two Listeners (daily devotionals)
7. The Way home or face The Fire by JAH

Of course the Bible should be the sole criterion for determining what is good (from God) and what is evil (from the devil/Satan) in every other text on Earth.

But if you're referring to books I've read about Christians and their experiences, then there are a few I like or that I have found value in.

Love George Muller

George Müller (1805–1898) was born in Kroppenstaedt, Prussia, the son of a tax collector. Before he became a Christian, George had the reputation of a liar and a thief. After accepting Christ as his personal Savior, he was used in remarkable ways to provide for over 10,000 orphans during his lifetime.

Here is a good biography of his life below.

This isn't going to be anything like an exhaustive list, but some of the books that have been important to me are:

The Narnia Chronicles, by CS Lewis. I realized in adulthood, looking back, how much these books shaped my faith. I first read them as a child, and I reread them every 10 years or so.

Showings, by Julian of Norwich.

Dialogues Concerning Natural Religion, by David Hume. It was a painful but important book to encounter.

Sadhana: A Way to God, by Anthony de Mello.

A Theology for the Social Gospel, by Walter Rauschenbusch

The Idea of the Holy, by Rudolf Otto

A Wrinkle in Time, A Wind in the Door, and A Swiftly Tilting Planet, by Madeleine L'Engle

A House Like a Lotus and Two-Part Invention: The Story of a Marriage, also by Madeleine L'Engle. I read these and some of L'Engle's other books for adults when I was newly married and wanted advice from an older Christian woman on navigating the complexities of relationships and marriage.

All of the novels by Lois McMaster Bujold. Most of them aren't directly about religious topics, but they have a lot of wisdom about life. Also, they're great fun stories.
