Hello all.
I'm new to this site and will probably lurk for a while, as I tend to do that before committing to much in the way of posts.
I've been a believer since hearing the word of God in an Independent Baptist church when I was 12 in 1978, and my studies have led me to an understanding of the Scriptures that most others, I am finding, do not have within the professing body of Christ.
Some would call me a "Calvinist" as I agree with the Canons of Dordt ( in principle if not outright wording ), as well as a "Particular Baptist" as I have recently come to see the truth of "Particular Redemption" in the Scriptures over the years since I first heard the Gospel of my salvation.
As for my earthly life so far:
I was born in the Boston, Massachusetts area in 1966 and have lived in Illinois since 1971.
I'm a former aviation sailor with roughly 10 years service ( most of it reserves and unaffiliated ) in the United States Navy from 1986 to 2000, progressing to the rank of AE2 ( that's E-5 for those that know U.S. DOD rank equivalents, or Aviation Electrician's Mate Second Class for those familiar with U.S. Navy ratings ) before I finally submitted my resignation.
While helpful, my time in the USN and the 24 years in my current job as a parts specialist for a minor defense contractor, do not define me...
My Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ does.
I've come to accept, many years ago, that this is my sojourn;
It's a temporary place on the way to meeting the One who cared enough for me to come and suffer shame and reproach, pain and ridicule and to die and to rise again for my sins, satisfying the requirements of my Father in Heaven.
Right now I've taken to settling down and waiting for Him as He commands, working with my hands and trying to be as helpful as I can in these last days to all my brothers and sisters.
Someday I will be with Him, and this world and its ways will cease to be even a memory, I imagine.
But for now I'd like the privilege to contribute anything in the way of edification if and when I can.
Thanks in advance to all the moderators and admins for their hard work in running things, and for the work they do in keeping people civil towards each other. I've been on several other forums, and I know how disagreements can get out of hand at times, no matter what our best intentions.
In Christ,
Dave.
