Jeffersonian conservatives never supported the massive progressive expansion of Federal power that began in the early 20th century. This includes Prohibition of all sorts, alcohol or drugs. All of these prohibitions are unconstitutional as the powers given to the Federal government are incredibly limited.
Okay, so....? We agree that conservatives are customarily and historically wary of too much government.

When you wrote this, however, it seemed more sweeping than simply observing that conservatives dislike excessive government power:

Most of the people calling themselves conservatives today have no idea how progressive they actually are. This is true from a church and theology standpoint as well as from a political standpoint.

The war on drugs is a decidedly progressive creation as is the mass expansion of Federal criminal statutes. However, I find these days its biggest cheerleaders are people who imagine these things are conservative.

How are stopping drug use and expanding prisons reflective of "progressive" political thinking? Marxists like concentration camps and "re-education" centers, I understand, but your analysis is still a bit unclear to me.

Prohibition was one of the main planks of the early 20th century progressive movement. The war on drugs is nothing more than an extension of Prohibition.

Brush up on your early 20th century history.
It's just not a good comparison, and yet you didn't hesitate to say modern conservatives = progressives.

The "progressives" of the early 20th century were not the same as the "progressives" of the last seventy or so years, although there are similarities, so that alone calls the comparison to Conservatives, and especially religious Conservatives, into question. It's just a weak argument.

Ohio Democrat tried to trade votes for cash, could get 50 years in prison, authorities say

A Cincinnati city councilwoman could face up to 50 years in prison after being arrested Tuesday on federal corruption charges, authorities say, according to reports.

Shortly after being taken into custody, Tamaya Dennard appeared in court in handcuffs and leg irons to face charges of honest services fraud, bribery and attempted extortion, FOX 19 of Cincinnati reported.

In one instance, a source linked to a downtown development project, who was cooperating with the FBI, handed Dennard a cashier’s check for $10,000.

“Oh, that’s perfect,” Dennard, 40, is heard saying on a recording, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. “Thank you. … I’m going right to the bank on this.”
Hey it's Cincinnati. What else is new.

Dennard was arrested first, most likely to get her to flip. Two other council members have since been arrested, one Democrat and a Republican, on accepting brides with the Republican charged with accepting $45, 000 in bribe money, $5000 more than the other Democrat.

Who knows where these will lead?
