The information about Covid has been spotty and inconsistent from the start of the pandemic. I don't blame people for being skeptical, or feeling like they don't know who to trust, or what information is accurate and what isn't.

And no, I'm not a Covid denier.
This has not been my experience at all. The information we have has grown a lot, but you’d have to have a very narrow exposure to news sources not to have the understanding that it is very serious, it attacks organs all over the body, it is a virus spread primarily via breath droplets, etc. etc. There is info and news about it pretty much everyday. Now - if you are a conspiracy theorist /QAnon cultist then you might think it’s not real.

Given how fast COVID took off that's hardly surprising. However things have long since settled down, information is pretty consistent now, and the actions required to slow the rate of spread are well documented.

What is bizarre is how some people still cling to the "it's just the flu" narrative, or outright refuse to believe it exists, simply because it suits their political world view.
It CAN be like the flu or even less than that how else could people have it and not know or have it and just have things that come with a cold. Now, granted no one knows how bad his or her particular case will be.

You can know it is real and not feel that it is as bad as they are saying.

Not the information that I'm referring to. It's coming from doctors and researchers.
Can you give some examples? I have only seen contradictory info from quack doctors and alternative scientists promoted by conspiracy theorist types. Haven’t seen any mainstream disagreement among doctors and epidemiologists.

Masks have been inconsistent.

First it was "any mask is better than no mask".

Then it was "actually some masks like gaiters are worse than no mask".

Now I doubt most people can identify which masks are mostly effective....which aren't very effective....and which are worse than nothing.

I guess it depends on one's definition of "pretty consistent" or what sources people get their information from. I still see a lot of conflicting and inconsistent info.

The only inconsistencies I'm hearing is speculation about whether airborne transmission methods have been understated, and about some of the ongoing side-effects.

Certainly, there is almost universal agreement about how to reduce transmission, and the countries that are following those methods have been almost entirely performing well.

That’s a good example of someone trusting their feelings over scientific experts. That’s willful ignorance and it’s being encouraged by some politicians.

True - or some people show no symptoms at all.
But "Flu-like symptoms" doesn't equal "it's just the flu"

I know full well Co-vid is real. I also know full well people are dying as a result, but I can also look at those numbers and say the odds are low ( remember I am also likely at higher risk) and I am NOT going to allow something like this to control my life.

Why not sense for some people it is not even like the flu? Yes there are much more serious cases, but people can in fact die from the flu. It happens every single year.

No your going to let your feelings control everyone else's lives around you. Part of caring about others and being part of a society is that your wants don't overide other people wants and rights.

Vietnam is also doing well.

Singapore is also doing quite well, despite having open borders and being a transit hub for international travel and trade. Currently sitting at 63 cases total, with none critical and no new cases for one week.

How can my feelings control your life? Am I telling you to go out and party? Am I telling you to have large gatherings?

Thanks for that info. The thread isn’t about you, it’s about people who are dying of COVID and still don’t believe they have it, and speculation on why that would happen.

Again true. However the death rate for COVID is much higher, and there is currently no vaccine.

Interestingly, flu cases and deaths (at least where I live) are way down on normal levels because of the precautions people have been taking for COVID. So much so that the government has been telling people that if they think they have a flu, it's more likely to be COVID, so they should get tested immediately.

I know that, but talking about people who do not think it is real: my point was that just because someone does not feel it is as serious as the media is saying does not mean that he or she outright does not believe it is a thing or even that he or she does not believe people are dying from it.

The difference is that on average it's much deadlier than the flu. The risk of Covid-19 disease being worse than the flu is higher.

Per the thread topic, it sounds like some people dying of it themselves still don't believe it.
