Yes the Spirit of God lives in us. This spirit is the same spirit that empowers the universe as with Jesus creation was spoken into being.
So if such a powerful being is living in us we should expect to se an effect on our character, how we live, speak and act.
1john4:19-21 is very clear we love Because of God's love so if we love God we MUST also love the unlovely people around us.

Jesus gave everything because of his love for you and me.
What are we giving to those we dislike, yet must also love?
