Is killing a spider as bad as killing a person?

How do you feel about people killing insects, animals, and other forms of life?

Usually best not to.
But, does not compare with killing a person.

I've made a deal with spiders; if they're in their home (the outdoors) I wont bother them; if they're in my home (in doors) they have violated the treaty and it's Kaboom! goes the swatter! :D

If you feel somewhat guilty when killing bugs, your heart is in the right place. God created the universe for our sake, and He placed His creation under our dominion. A good steward cares for that which is in his care, and this includes uprooting weeds in the garden when necessary. Personally, I'm terrorized by mosquitoes. If one preys on me outdoors, I can accept that reality—weeds naturally grow in the wilderness. But if one finds itself in the confines of my house, in my garden? Well, it's gloves-off and time for business. Or, to keep up the analogy, I put on the gardening gloves and do the dirty work. If the job was successful, I thank God, but I also ask for His forgiveness, because the death of the pest in question was a direct consequence of my great weakness.

This was something that really 'bugged' me for the longest time, but my priest answered me with the weeds-in-the-garden analogy, which helped put my heart at ease.

Not really, but apparently if you slaughter an ox, it's like breaking a dog's neck. (Isaiah 66:3)

The same passage says killing a bull is like killing a person - I guess spiders don't rate.

From hazy memory the Dalia Lama was asked a similar question, more to do with food animals than insects, his response was if you have kill somethings, kill the biggest ones, so you have to kill less of them.

It bothers me every time I kill something. We live in a world that isn't compatible with all living things. I think I killed at least three squirrels this last month, driving from the back road to work. After all these years, they still haven't figured out how to avoid death by vehicle wheel. It's not their fault. It's ours. This world, as God made it, wasn't built for fast vehicles. Simply put, we have made a world that is not compatible with all of life. Who is to blame for that? We are.

Is killing a spider as bad as killing a person? It all depends on who you ask. If you ask me, there is nothing wrong with killing a spider, but there is something wrong with killing a person. However, if you ask the spider, you would likely get a different response

Flying cockroaches, I won't even negotiate with, its "splat!" if i can, if not, and they manage to make a take off, I'm ususlly hurting myself trying to get away. Flies, gnats, ants and such, not so scary but unhealthy and need to go. But I think all those things were put here to force us to keep our homes clean, and that usually does the trick. Most everything else at least has a chance if being put out.

I tolerate chameleons indoors to take care of bugs, as well as praying mantis...they pull double duty, both bugs, and spiritual help. The cats now? They generally have something different in mind for them.

After all these years, they still haven't figured out how to avoid death by vehicle wheel.

We used to see armadillos all the time when I was a kid, but I havent seen one in years because if that.

I had one on my patio next to my chair that I spared. He lived about 5 or 6 months until dying a natural death.

There was another one more recently, whose web I would ash on, and he would immediately come to attack the ash. Once he figured out it was not a life form, he would knock it off his web. I killed him.

They sell spider catchers to catch spiders and other small critters in your house, then you can release them outside without killing nor harming them.
What about killing germs by taking medicine?
What about using disinfect and hand soap, which kills good bacteria?

I think it's fine if done for a good purpose like preventing disease or nuisance or to protect life. I have a gun that uses compressed air to shoot salt like a shotgun. It works really well out in my woodshop. The flies come in this time of year to escape the cold and they are a real nuisance. They land on my elbow or the back of my neck whenever I'm trying to carve and it drives me up the wall when I'm trying to concentrate. I don't kill spiders because they do no harm to me and actually help by catching the flies.
