• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Those of you who hear negative voices telling you to take some kind of action on yourselves, I encourage you to get BAPTIZED. There are forces at work that will try to interfere with your baptism, but make sure you follow through with it and do not hesitate! The time is now and this is very important! It will be the best day of your life! God bless you all! I love you guys-

I already posted in that thread urging him to consult a doctor first. Nobody is saying baptism is the ONLY answer. Meds and therapy are still of a foremost importance, but maintaining emotional stability relies on a number of interconnected components: medication, therapy, spirituality, socialization, good sleep and diet, exercise if possible, daily structure and routine and so on. My faith plays a huge role in my recovery and self-care practices, and were I to remove it entirely, it would have as negative an impact on me as if I decided to stop socializing or stop sleeping.

My re-baptism won't completely cure my psychosis, but it strengthened my faith which in turn strengthened my self-esteem, self-worth, coping skills, etc. which in turn strengthens my recovery and mental stability. Maybe it won't work for everyone, but it will undoubtedly work for some.

How is she being irresponsible? All she's saying is if someone hears voices, she "encourages them to get baptized". She's not saying getting baptized will cure people of voices. She's not telling people to get baptized instead of getting professional medical help. It seems like a perfectly reasonable suggestion to me, no different than any other non-medical suggestion for improving one's mental health.

Jaxxi regularly posts in this sub-forum and she's always been very attentive and sympathetic from what I've seen. I don't know why one needs to "challenge" her just by suggesting that baptism can be positive for one's mental health (which it can).

In just saying get baptized she is impling that that is all that is needed.

Obviously only Jaxxi can definitively answer that, but I completely disagree with that interpretation. I don't see any real evidence to support that assumption; she didn't even say "you NEED to get baptized", she just said "I encourage you to get baptized": it's a suggestion, not a command. We'll just have to wait until she responds.

Baptism is an act of obedience to signify the washing away of your sins. It’s is and isn’t some high time to be experienced over and over. You only need it once. Some of us need attention though so go out and serve the Lord. We have a food ministry at church where some go to serve food to the poor something like that! Go to the park and tell people about Jesus. Pray for others.
Go about your daily lives with joy-sometimes that is work too. Get out of yourselves and learn to love the body. Go to a prayer meeting or bible study. Talk about other people your with, ask questions. You have new life celebrate it, soberly. By all means go to church as often as possible to learn about your new life. If for some reason you can’t you are not condemned but may have a harder time with it. I get joy every time at church but it was a little trialing at first till I got into the word.

How do you know baptism is not the answer? The Bible says Jesus drove out demons. Do you think just because science came along the demons went away? That is what you were supposed to think!! You can take either route actually. One comes with Salvation and a chance to get into heaven and the other comes with a plastic bottle.
Anything that God has a spiritual answer for, satan has an imitation of that answer.

But how much good is it going to do ya if you do it again?
It cannot hurt that is for sure! It just reaffirms your commitment, like when a couple renews their vows.

I am referring to people who hear what sounds like demons telling them to hurt themselves. Baptism is a great place to start before taking a bunch of drugs.

Because baptised Christians suffer from mental illnesses.

Yes. Baptism is not supposed to be a deliverance from demons. Do deliverance on yourself, rebuke Satan in Jesus name til they go or your satisfied they won’t. To me it is unbalanced flesh that acts and sounds like demons. Meds do help and nothing else does. They keep you from freaking out on all this voices. Seek a doctors care, go to church read bible if can. Life is sometimes a battle for the mind. Fight. Don’t let the voices have their way. Do what is right in spite of them. They want you to believe them- don’t. Pray to God for help he can give you help. The voices can be more in the back ground.

Meds do help and nothing else does.

That is nonsense...

I have walked the journey out of darkness over seven years - I was committed given ECT, drug therapy, reduced to vegetable state, my life was all but destroyed.

After being released from incarceration, I immersed myself in prayer, learned to resist Satan, received wonderful healing and deliverance, I am fully rebuilt.

Never took meds.

Read my testimony thread here...

Jesus's Ministry

So to suggest Meds. do help and nothing else does is sheer nonsense.

I hate seeing folks bound up in a med. prison for life, when Jesus sets us free and heals.

My journey out was 40 years ago.

I am fully restored and strong in Jesus by His grace.

Was it an easy journey ? - No.

However day by day with Jesus eventually conquers all..

God heals and sets us free thru doctors too. How many people do you know that can wait seven years for a miracle. As it is sometimes a miracle doesn’enter the picture. Sometimes the many need doctors not just the one strong one. t
