Psalm 132:
11 The Lord has sworn In Truth to David;

He will not turn from it:
I will set upon your throne the fruit of your body.
12 If your sons will keep My covenant
And My testimony which I shall teach them,
Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forevermore.

1 Kings 2:
1
Now the days of David drew near that he should die, and he charged Solomon his son, saying:
2 I go the way of all the earth; be strong, therefore, and prove yourself a man.
3 And keep the charge of the Lord your God: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses,
that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn;
4 that the Lord may fulfill His word which He spoke concerning me, saying,
If your sons take heed to their way, to walk before Me in truth with all their heart
and with all their soul,
He said, you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.

People often speak of David as a man after "God's own heart", even as they mention
his sins. What is rarely mentioned in the significance of this statement, is that David
was attentive to the words of his prophets. Saul was terrified of Samuel, and rightly so,
as he was more than a prophet, he was the judge of all Israel at the time. David always
hearkened unto the voice of his prophets Gad and Nathan. From Solomon on, a king who
gave heed to the prophet of YHVH became very rare indeed. The slaying of the prophet
became more the norm, such that Messiah proclaimed His curse upon Judea for rejecting
Him, saying:

Luke 11:
49
Therefore the wisdom of God also said, I will send them prophets and apostles, and
some of them they will kill and persecute,

50 that the blood of all the prophets which was shed from the foundation of the world
may be required of this generation
,
51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah who perished between the altar
and the temple. Yes, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.
