Keep reading as he contrasts those in 4-8 with those in verse

That still doesn`t explain how a thorn branch partakes of the Holy Ghost. I`m not settled with it because OSAS rests on the work of the Holy Ghost. I see it as a problem for the doctrine that I don`t have a good answer for.

Holy Ghost, powers of the world to come for thorns works against the OSAS ideal in my opinion.

I`ve never seen a good answer for this and I myself will try to avoid dealing with that verse. I`ve been in a position more then once where I needed to encourage someone who was troubled by the Hebrew passages in 6 & 10.

I`ve never been satisfied with the answers I am able to give. I actually have one answer I use that I haven`t seen on this board but it`s closer to being a theory then what I consider solid Biblical proof.

the devil believes and the demons pleaded with Christ to not torment them before their time.
The devil will go to hell because of his wickedness even though he believes.

What hope is there for the backslider? The Bible says it would be better for them if they had never believed.

ad hominem attacks are are a sure sign you cannot defend your beliefs, apologetics 101.

Eternal life is what its name suggests an unending or everlasting life. If eternal life could be lost then it is misnamed because it wouldn’t really be eternal and be referred to as temporal or conditional life. All who have eternal life will live forever with Christ in heaven. No one who has come to faith in Christ will ever be cast out and go to the lake of fire that was prepared for the devil and his angels. Once you believe in Christ your eternal destiny in God’s kingdom sealed and is guaranteed.

Eternal life is not just unending life. It is the life we now have in God through Jesus. John refers to Jesus Christ Himself as eternal life. It is life that comes from God. A person who has eternal life has God’s life within him.

It is obvious that eternal life doesn’t begin when we die. Jesus said, He who believes in Me has (present tense) everlasting life. He didn’t say that the one who believes in Him will have (future tense) everlasting life. He said that he has eternal life in the here and now from that very first moment of faith. Eternal life is unending life.

Jesus, Paul and John emphasize that eternal life is a present reality and the present possession of the Christian in the here and now. It will have its ultimate fulfillment in the future but every believer has eternal life at the moment they believe in the Son of God.

Jesus said I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. (John 10:28).That means nothing or no one can remove a believer from Christ.

Paul tells us in Ephesians 4:30 that believers are sealed for the day of redemption. If believers did not have salvation or eternal life/security then the sealing could not truly be until the day of redemption. Paul in Romans 8:38-39 really drives home the everlasting promise of eternal life/salvation for the believer "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Our eternal security is bought with the blood of Christ, promised to us by the Father Who cannot deny Himself and sealed in the believers heart by the Holy Spirit. What wonderful promises believers have for their eternal security in Christ.

Jesus tells us in John 3:15-16 that whoever believes in Jesus Christ will have eternal life, not might have but actually possesses that everlasting life. If a person is promised eternal life and then to have it taken away then it was never eternal to begin with and it makes Jesus out to be a liar and the promises of God to be false. Below we see more promises the believer can count on for eternal life now and in the future. We can be confident in the promises of God.

John 3:16
16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

John 3:36
"He who believes in the Son has eternal life;

John 5:24
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

John 6:47
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes has eternal life.

John 6:54
54 "He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.

John 10:27-30
"My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29 "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. 30 "I and the Father are one."

Matt 25:46
"These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

1 John 3:14
We know that we have passed out of death into life,

1 John 5:13
These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Hope this helps,

You have already grossly changed Christ's scripture, to fit your own needs...that is where I gave up on you.

I personally would be ashamed to do that.

Antichrist's do not believe in Christ. You need to be a believer before you can reject Christ, but they were never one of them, the 'them' being the believers.
.

I agree they were never one of them. John argues that had they been, they would not have left. So John seems very clearly OSAS.

I think to reject Christ though, mere knowledge of the truth is required - the same type of "belief" that the demons have who believe and tremble. This would be the same type of belief you could have if given signs or gained through gnostic wisdom, which is why I think God rejected it as means to salvation (1 Corinthians 1:21-23) - it isn't the type of belief God seeks. Interestingly, the type of belief he seems to desire is founded on a desire for him (ie substance of things hoped for).

It doesnt have to say that. It says the were a believer, then they fell away.

There are none so blind as those who cannot read the simple statement by Christ, and understand it.
no it doesn't nice try, quote it..................

Watch this verse make sense for those with eyes to see. Think of the 12 disciples

1 John 2:19
They(judas) went out from us, but they(judas) did not really belong to us. For if they(judas) had belonged to us, they(judas) would have remained with us; but their going (judas)showed that none of them(judas) belonged to us.

hope this helps !!!

I've heard that before. I hope so, but declaring yourself something does not make it so. Have a good one.

This was one of the passages that initially prevented me from OSAS. I later realized that what I was doing - getting saved over and over and over again - is said to be impossible by that very passage! So I now believe the passage is showing why God can't allow us to lose our salvation, not showing what happens to those who do (it never claims anyone does). Thus v1 says let's move on - we're never going to have to lay those foundations again anyway.

If we are in tune with what the Holy Spirit is speaking to our heart then we will know you only get saved once. That`s why Hebrews 6 & 10 can be very discouraging to someone who has drifted away. I`ve dealt with people who fixated on these passages and every time I have felt like I`m missing something. They are hard to reach when this happens.

That`s a bad answer

6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

John is urging them to remain faithful. He worries they may go back. The apostle Paul had the same concerns.

Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. (1 John 2:24 KJV)

That would be hard. I suppose I would point out the passages "return to me for I have redeemed you" - implies they've left him, but not lost their redemption.

I would like to clear it up. As I said on another thread, To me how can you not believe in it? You have to keep being saved over and over again otherwise? So once isn't enough for you? That would seem to say that being saved is meaningless if you can't count on it to stick around.
Any theories, thoughts, etc?

To be clear, and once again, none of that matters. The point we are trying to make here is can one lose salvation. They were a believer, and they fell away, for whatever reason. Meaning simply, they lost their salvation. If you choose not to see that, that is up to you.
once again you made that up without quoting the passage which is a dishonest dialogue on your part.

That`s a bad answer

6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
(2 Peter 2:21)

For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.
(Hebrews 6:4-6 KJV)
