One a more light hearted note:

For those of us living in the UK, if you were to emigrate, where would you go? And why?

Reading the comments from some about the state of the UK leaves you wondering why anyone would stay. Clearly most of us have stayed, and have not had to escape men in kilts, or to find Tarshish (escaping to Tarshish sounds familiar). Indeed, many more have immigrated here.

I enjoyed Holland when I went there years ago.
And their Dementia care seems to be way ahead of ours - there is a whole Dementia village, staffed by nurses and carers and gated for safety.

Pluto....that would be my choice.
Sorry to break the news, but I think that you missed hitching a ride on the only transport going that way. The New Horizons bus left in 2006 and could have let you off as it passed Pluto in 2015. Isn't there somewhere closer? And warmer?

The state of england is abysmal, and the worst thing is this whole global communist "great reset" is, global, so even if I tried to run away from Boris his ungodly proposal would follow anyway.

That being said I have a lot of family in Scotland but if I where to leave the UK completely, I would love to go to Australia, maybe even Africa but I would be at the latter to do missionary work.

I could move to Botswana, without even thinking twice. I just think its lovely and peaceful there. I absolutely love it. There are lots of cool game reserves & wildlife too, not forgetting to mention, some amazing luxurious lodges, right in the middle of nowhere.

I also wouldn't mind living on a beautiful island such as the Seychelles or even in the Maldives. I'd definitely love to go on a holiday too, to Monte Carlo 'Monaco'.

I'd like to go (the Lord willing) to somewhere else in Europe, as I love old buildings. Probably Austria or Switzerland with their beautiful mountainous scenery or maybe northern Italy. I'm quite happy staying here though.

I'm Australian and live in Queensland so the debate isn't really for me.

But I was flipping TV channels the other day and one of the channels had one of those shows about people trying to find their "dream home" on a certain budget. I don't watch these shows, but I was flipping and happened to see the description.

What intrigued me was that the couple were moving from Queensland to the UK, namely somewhere in the Dorset area if I remember correctly. Apparently they'd had enough of our hot summer weather, and after a holiday to the UK thought they could easily live there.

Escape To The Country - Dorset

Although they were cheating - they wanted the best of both worlds - they were going to have a home in each place, moving to Queensland for our balmy winters (which are probably warmer than English summers), but retreating to England when the summer started to arrive.

I don't know how old the show was, but I wonder what they're doing now? It's not that easy to fly back and forth these days.

Possibly Australia as I was very impressed by it on the two occasions I visited Sydney - once for the Sydney Olympics and once for a family wedding, when the bride was Australian. I was particularly impressed by their transport system, especially their ferries and their trains. Of course, staying there for a couple or three weeks is a lot different to living there permanently.

Where would anyone else go?
