Hi prayer warriors,

Sadly my cat has developed brain cancer and has started also developing seizures.
She is about 14 - so she is an older cat and this is not uncommon.
This week I have been grief stricken ,understandably however my wonderful vet has started her on treatment to minimize and treat the seizures. He says that without an MRI that's all he can do.( MRI's cost $3000 AUD - thank you very much.)

I wanted to respect her life and choose hope but seeing her all lethargic and twitching as well as licking herself constantly ( a side effect of the meds) is awful.

My prayer request is to have wisdom to know when and if to give up on this treatment and just put her to sleep. My cat will never be the same again and it is as if a chapter has closed on what was a healthy ,happy life and now she is suffering. Am I keeping her alive for her or for me?And will she be able to regain a quality of life?
These are hard questions I have to ask myself.
Pet owners would understand.
Thank you to all who have any word of encouragement, advice or prayer.

Okay, this'll be difficult coming from me with my background (I used to manage a herd of cattle) but my mind was always on the cost against the results. Even with cows that WERE like pets to me, I had to get clinical and realistic.

The BIG question: are you doing the right thing by this animal? Any vet worth their salt will answer this for you, honestly.

Everything I see in your post, Starry, says that you are keeping the cat alive for yourself. It's understandable, but even you yourself describe her as suffering with no prospects for improvement, so you really should do the right thing. And I say this while knowing how painful this will be for you.

I would pray for healing for the cat. If it doesn't come, then you must use wisdom to choose the right course. I can understand how deep this goes; I've been taking care of a cat and they really do burrow down deep into our hearts. See James 3 for the characteristics of the wisdom from above.

How do you know the cat has brain cancer? Is that a certainty? I would take a look at your cat, does it have any time during the day when it is not suffering? If so, then i would not be quick about putting it to sleep. No doubt you love your cat and in watching it you will not let it suffer too much. As another poster said, pray for it. See how things go. I think you will know when it is time.
In the fall of 2019, I had a dream where I buried my cat. In February, he was very wobbly, could barely walk and was not using the litter box for a short time. I talked with the vet about putting him down. I prayed this: Ps 106:5 Who satisfieth thine old age with good [things]; thy youth is renewed like the eagle's. He recovered and then died in September of kidney disease. He was 20 years old and I appreciated the extra 6 months. He loved the summer so it was great seeing him resting outside nearly every day. Keep asking God to help you. He too will give you the wisdom you need.

Sorry to hear about your cat.

Heaven Father, I pray that You will intercede, and if there is hope for healing and recovery than may it start to show itself, if not, help this one with the decision that needs to be made for her cat. You care about all Your people and everything that concerns, worries or hurts them, and You know that it hurts to lose one of our pet family. Put the answer in her heart to do what is right when the time comes, so the cat doesn't have to suffer needlessly. I also ask that You will give this person the strength to cope and be given peace with her decision, In Jesus Name, Amen
