Hi everyone. I'm an atheist from Santa Barbara, California. I was motivated to post here after something I read. I came across an article saying that in many parts of the US, there is a social stigma associated with atheism, to the extent that people won't admit to being atheist. That seems weird to me because in California it isn't like that at all. Anyway, I figured the antidote is to encourage dialog across the religious divide, and I can do that as well as anyone, so I looked up this forum and dropped in to say hi.
I'm coming off a really great weekend because here in Santa Barbara we have a wonderful late summer season that lasts well into October, with warm sunny beach weather – I spent the day in the ocean yesterday. Also, the local search and rescue team is training a new puppy, which I got to play with. (Unlike seeing eye dogs, you're generally allowed to play with search dogs because the whole point is for them to crave and seek out human contact.) Work is tough and I'm sick of the pandemic restrictions, but I still have a job, so I'm not going to complain about that.
Best wishes to everyone. Take care of yourselves and each other.
