Hello!
I am new to ChristianForums.com so please accept my apologies if this has been planted in the wrong place (perhaps a moderator can correctly place it for me)...but I wanted to share with you a video which has helped me to remember common sense objections to Darwinian Evolution, in the form of a mnemonic: EVOLUTION-X
It has certainly been very useful for me, especially when suddenly thrown into a discussion of Creationism v Evolution and I wanted to try and remember my key points - and so I thought I'd share it :)
It uses secular sources as much as possible, and is best viewed in YouTube as there is some text on it and so is better full-screen. Copy and paste this to view and share from YouTube: https://youtu.be/K07COV0fcm4
Thank you - and may God bless you!

Since evolution including common descent is true , you’re simply wasting your time and energy.
It also helps to remember that evolution is a fact of nature and has nothing to do with atheism. Saying that accepting evolution causes atheism is about as stupid as saying that seeing lightning causes atheism

A real cause of atheism is science denial and pseudoscience explanations by religious people

I haven't watched the whole film, but there are significant problems with the first point alone.

You claim that humans can't be apes... but don't present any justification aside from some differences and a personal dislike for what you feel are the consequences.

Humans are apes because we feature all the biological characteristics that define apes. The evolutionary explanation for this fact is that we have a recent common ancestor with the other apes and can clearly be defined as an ape, a primate, a mammal and an animal.

Accepting evolution doesn't imply some kind of nihilism where you don't assign any more value to human lives then any other life form.

You need to actually define why this is a justification. Not just say "I can't imagine why." as that is merely an argument from incredulity... a common logical fallacy.

As long as you are using their created world to make your arguments against their evolution, you will not make much progress.

To Follower-of-Jesus: On this area of the board - "evolution is science fact".

Please be aware of this when posting a contrary POV.

===================

I think you will agree with me that given the fact I just posted about this area of the board - what Brightmoon stated makes perfect sense... here.

However I think it still does allow creationists to vote in your poll question. Someone correct me if that is not the case.

Didn't watch it all--the first two assumptions he made are bogus and it didn't seem useful to carry on with it.

1. Raising the issue of God's existence is a red herring. The discussion is about creationism v. evolution, not about theism v. atheism.
2. Evolution is both a fact and a theory, not one or the other. Evolution is a fact and the theory of evolution explains that fact.

Evolution is a fact. The only real point of discussion is whether the theory of evolution as currently framed by science is an adequate explanation for that fact.

Organic evolution by natural processes doesn't conflict with belief in God. It conflicts with belief in the Bible.
No. It conflicts with a certain kind of attitude towards the Bible. The Bible is fine. It's a crazy ahistorical literalism that doesn't work.

As someone who has no interest in watching youtube videos, I am hoping you can take the time to explain exactly what it's a mnemonic for. Presumably each letter corresponds to a word.

Perhaps you could briefly summarise your 'key points' here, if it's not too much trouble?

E.T.A. I watched the first 5.5 minutes and conclude that it's an excellent video for teaching that common sense is a poor guide to reality and that complete ignorance of a subject only compounds the problem. It's a time-waster.

Sorry, you lost me quickly with your video. Evolution has plenty of evidence to show it is happening. It is not a belief, but an acceptance that it is happening.

Sorry it doesn't fit in your world view.

I watched most of the video and think it did a good job of laying out the arguments against evolutionary theory. In this subset of CF however, it will be very controversial and some will rally against it without watching the video or addressing the issues raised. By the way welcome to Christian Forums.

So pick an issue and we will discuss it. Which do you think was the best argument in that video?

Thank you Jacks....I'm grateful for your advice (and welcome). I think I may need to take a step back and try to help some folk identify their pre-suppositions before they can change the 'filter' on their worldview. Let's try again...

Maybe you should practice on theistic evolutionists in the appropriate Christians-only sub-forum.

My presuppositions:

Is there a God? Yes, that is my belief. But the presupposition is not germane to our discussion. The theory of evolution neither affirms nor denies the existence of God or His authorship of our being.

Is evolution a fact or a theory? It is both. Evolution is a fact. Life has changed and diversified over time since it came into being. The theory of evolution is a scientific explanation for that fact.

Is science a closed topic? Science is a discourse of inductive logic, therefore it can never be closed. All scientific theories (including the theory of evolution) are held in principle only provisionally, pending new evidence.
