I'm kind of curious about that myself.

(I'm hoping that you're not saying that you gave the car's title to somebody without making certain that the check cleared.)
I haven't done it yet. The buyer said also the check will be from a loan company but is this still safe?

When I've done it, I write up a bill of sale, and I ask the buyer for his DL. I put both of our DL#s on the bill of sale. My bank has a scanner that they run the checks though. I believe that they can tell immediately if the funds are available. Perhaps you, hop in the car with the buyer; and take a trip to your bank; and tell him ahead of time, that you'll sign over the title when your bank confirms that the funds are available.

You can say, " I'm not accusing you of anything; but I don't know you."

If you sell a vehicle to someone and they pay by check and check is no good will your auto insurance consider it stolen?

Thanks for the help.
If that were to happen, call the police.

They would tell you how to proceed and where your insurance fits into the story.

NEVER EVER accept a check for anything. On something expensive, meet inside of a bank and insist on cash that is given to them from a bank teller and then sign the title to them.

It might make sense to call the insurance company on the front end; and just ask. They might even give some tips on the best way to handle the transaction.
