When you say the Spirit of Christ, are we talking an overtaking of our bodies in a kind of posession or are we talking the effect of the word convicting us of sin and leading us to "men and brethren, what shall we do?"

Romans 10 says it takes a preacher (anyone who tells others of the gospel) for people to hear and believe.

Are you guys going to start in on calvinism? That always gets exciting.

Go YE therefore...and preach. Seems the work of evangelism is left to us.
1 Corinthians 3:16-17
Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.

1 Corinthians 6:15-20
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be! Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “The two shall become one flesh.” But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

2 Corinthians 6:14-18
Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said,
“I will dwell in them and walk among them;
And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

Ephesians 2:19-22
So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord

hope this helps !!!

All of the letters were written to baby/newborn churches/believers and not to grownups with the complete New Testament and should be treated as baby food.

I understand, preachers don't like that idea.
Preachers is a rather generic term in my mind as it pertains to Romans 10. People need introduction, information, interdiction and support from others. I think that is what Paul is saying.

And yes, a pigmy in New Guinea could find a bible washed up on shore and learn it all by him or herself. :)

What preachers don't like baby food?

Yes our bodies as individuals is where the Holy Spirit dwells once we are born again of His Spirit. We are the temple of God and His Spirit is in us where we can cry out Abba Father.

Galatians 4:6
And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”

Romans 8:15
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”

hope this helps !!!

I was thinking more like Ephesians 3 where the individuals in Christ are joined together into one body or as in 1Cor 12. Is it possible for a congregation to be joined to a harlot? When certain denominations welcome homosexuality as if it were not a sin, would that qualify as destroying the temple of God?

I don't mean to argue that the HS does not dwell in us personally, it does. I, however, am not the body of Christ but I am a part of it. Perhaps the pinky toe or a nose hair.

I feel like Paul is a big picture kind of guy in most references to the temple of God and the body of Christ.

It does put a different angle on those passages. Something to consider.

you are correct that a little leaven leavens the whole lump and that what the toe does or doesn't do has an effect on the rest of the body.

No Bible is ever needed.

Isaiah 40:26
Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name, by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power not one is missing.

Psalm 19:1-6
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard. Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy.

Psalm 33:6-9
By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.

Psalm 8:3
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

Psalm 104:5
He set the earth on its foundations, so that it should never be moved.

John 1:18
No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known.

John 15:22
If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.

Psalm 119:9o
Your faithfulness endures to all generations; you have established the earth, and it stands fast.

Deuteronomy 4:19
And beware lest you raise your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, you be drawn away and bow down to them and serve them, things that the Lord your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.

Paul never met Jesus, so he only had the words of others to work with.
That's why he's the least of the apostles. The worst of all sinners.

Do you want to stand by those statements?

There is One God
There is One Lord
There is One Faith
There is One Baptism
There is One Jesus
There is only One way to God
There is One Savior

And there is One Gospel

Galatians 1:6

6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

So since there is only One God, One Savior, One way to God through Christ, One faith, One baptism and One Gospel- there is only one way to be saved.

How do you know you have the right One ?

hope this helps !!!
And there has only ever been one Gospel, from the foundation of the earth.

John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 5:8
But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Mark 10:52
And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.

The Jews were supposed to be God's people, but mixed in with them were unbelievers, pharasees....o Jerusalem...how I longed to gather you under my wings and you would not...etc.

Do you not know that the remnant were saved while the others perished in the war?
Exactly as the parable said.

Now we have a similar situation with the church. Will it end the same way? It certainly will.
All this is news to me. And not particularly good news. - lol

And me and at least one other people understand that
there are no different levels of sin. All sin is the same.

27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’
28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

So sex with your neighbor's wife is considered the same as lusting after her.
Once you get this "concept" then you know that persecuting Christians is no different
than persecuting Muslims. Or being dishonest with a neighbor. Or any sin.

It is not necessarily so that all sin is the same. The Bible says that God hates some sin and truly abhors another. All sin is the same in that it separates us from God and that the sin is really against God. However the results of some sin is much worse than others and therefor it is a worse sin only in that narrow sense. The result for the individual is the same. In the verses you quote Christ is only clarifying that sin is in the heart and not the physical act. In the heart and in the mind the rebellion against God is completed, the physical act is after the fact.

Anything other than what Paul declared was his gospel that saved.
I wonder how that compares with the gospels of the other Apostles?
There is certainly no consensus today about what the gospel is.
Was there consensus in the early church?

Paul says in Galatians 2 its the same gospel Peter preached to the circumcised(jews) as he did to the uncircumcised(gentiles).

How did you arrive at that conclusion?

Galatians 2:11-13
When Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group. 13 The other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray.

How ?

read below !

Galatians 2:7-9
But on the contrary, seeing that I had been entrusted with the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been to the circumcised 8 (for He who effectually worked for Peter in his apostleship to the circumcised effectually worked for me also to the Gentiles), 9 and recognizing the grace that had been given to me, James and Cephas and John, who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, so that we might go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.

Well, I'm not prophecying a war if that's what you mean. Many will say in that day Lord, Lord.....He will say to them, "I never knew you"....

I am sure the Jews of the first century thought God would avenge them of the Romans. I mean, they defiled the temple and all....thought their emperor was god. Just like their ancesters did before the Babylonians took over they didn't see their own sins an account what God thought of that.

The church is headed down the same road.

Hello Skywriting, but that's simply not true (which is also why "preachers don't like your idea" ;)). For instance,

1 John 2
7 Beloved, I am not writing a new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you have heard.
8 On the other hand, I am writing a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true Light is already shining.
9 The one who says he is in the Light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now.
10 The one who loves his brother abides in the Light and there is no cause for stumbling in him.
11 But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
12 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake.
13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father.
14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

Philippians 3
14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
15 Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.
16 Only let us hold true to what we have attained.

Hebrews 5
13 Everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child.
14 But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.

1 Peter 1
13 Prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.
14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.
15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;
16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

--David
