Do we have to abide in the Messiah and obey Him to enter the kingdom?

1. I did not find any place where Paul says Peter, James and John were preaching another gospel.
2. "Appears" is not the same as "only appears". too much large scale inference going on in that post.
3. Paul condemns the idea of "preaching another gospel" in Gal 1:6-9 ... but never accuses Peter, James and John of doing it.
4. Paul says "'the gospel was preached to Abraham" Gal 3:8, and was "preached to us just as it was to them also" Heb 4:2 speaking of OT Jews.

well I did quote it for you, the word dokeo means appear to be but are not in reality, just a mere appearance.

I also showed how in context Paul is literally saying they do not walk according to the truth of the gospel... see the bolded words? He even names Kepha/Peter by name, and before that there is a "their conduct"

14 But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all,

Galatians 2:4-14, " 4 Yet because of false brothers secretly brought in—who slipped in to spy out our freedom that we have in Christ Jesus, so that they might bring us into slavery— 5 to them we did not yield in submission even for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you. 6 And from those who seemed to be influential (what they were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality)—those, I say, who seemed influential added nothing to me. 7 On the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been entrusted with the gospel to the circumcised 8 (for he who worked through Peter for his apostolic ministry to the circumcised worked also through me for mine to the Gentiles), 9 and when James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised. 10 Only, they asked us to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do. 11 But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party. 13 And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”

John 5:43, “I have come in My Father's Name, but you do not follow Me. Let another come in his own name; him you will follow.”

Our works are filthy rags (works without the Holy Spirit) ....

However, if we are born again, have received the Holy Spirit, we will have works of which the Holy Spirit does in/through us. So any works seen in a believer are evidence that they have been born again. But they are not our works they are from Him and He gets ALL the glory.

After being born again the believer goes through a cleansing of the Holy Spirit and this is a earthly life-time process (sanctification) .... we will mess up here and there but He will finish His work in the believer.

The believer is to abide in Him and what that is .... is the believer is responsive to the work of the Holy Spirit in them. The Holy Spirit makes one aware of their wrong doing/wrong thinking and leads them to repentance of that wrong doing/wrong thinking.

This is how one is being transformed into His image.

Philippians 1:6

New Living Translation
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

Thank you Jesus! and AMEN!!!

No transformation happens devoid of His Spirit and what HE SAYS HIS SPIRIT DOES. May we all follow Him.

Hebrews 10:16, "“This is the covenant that I shall make with them after those days, says יהוה, giving My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I shall write them.”
1 John 3:24, “And the one guarding His commands stays in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He stays in us, by the Spirit which He gave us.”

Ezekiel 36:26-28, "A new heart, will I also give you, and a new spirit will I put within you; and I will take away the heart of stone out of your flesh, and will give you a heart of flesh. I will put My Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments, and do them. And you will dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and you will be My people, and I will be your Father."

Mat 22:37-40, “Yahshua said to him: You must love YHWH your Father with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. (Deut 6:5) This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. (Lev 19:18) On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Zechariah 7:11-13, "But they refused to pay any attention--they turned a stubborn shoulder, and they stopped their ears so they would not be able to hear. Yes, they made their hearts like a hard adamant stone, in order not to hear the Law and the words, which YHWH of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Therefore, great wrath came from YHWH of hosts. Just as I called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear, says YHWH of hosts!"

Ezekiel 11:19-21, “And I shall give them one heart, and put a new spirit within you. And I shall take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, so that they walk in My laws, and guard My right-rulings, and shall do them. And they shall be My people and I shall be their Strength. But to those whose hearts walk after the heart of their disgusting matters and their abominations, I shall recompense their deeds on their own heads,” declares the Master יהוה.”

Well I think every situation is different and I can not answer 100% definitively because He is the judge and His thoughts are beyond our thoughts, but the way I see it is like a marathon, not where a single choice makes or breaks us but a lifetimes of choices move us in one direction or the other.

I define obey as doing ANYTHING the Most High says to do, from the 2 greatest commandments that all the Law hangs on to something for the individual person that He has led them to do.
I appreciate your getting back with me so quickly.

There are a lot of Christians with mental issues, because they feel they are not or have not “done enough”. Do you see a problem with your answer in helping them?

I am not suggesting you make an answer up to help them, but what might help them to know?

The commands are wonderful, just as the commands of the Law were wonderful, but no one could keep the Law.

OK, you do not know: “who is obedient and who is not obedient by God’s standard”, yet give an extremely high standard for obedience, but would God’s definition be the one that counts?

You talk about, “every situation is different” (which is relativism), but the rules are very specific, so what is relative?

What do you take away from Jesus saying: Mark 9:40 “for whoever is not against us is for us.”?

I get it about being good enough, a very high bar, however I see the same if not more danger in saying "all things are lawful" or justifying sin because we are sinful in nature.

If His Spirit is really upon someone then they will seek His ways, laws, teachings, etc.

There is no way around this

Acts 5:32 “And we are His witnesses to these matters, and so also is the Set-apart Spirit whom the Might One has given to those who obey Him.”

1 John 3:24, “And the one guarding His commands stays in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He stays in us, by the Spirit which He gave us.”

But to me the key is the empowerment, that comes from Him and His power.

Hebrews 10:16, "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says YHWH: I will put My Law into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them.”

John/Yahanan 15:5-16, "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, produces much fruit; but without Me, you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away like a branch, and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and letting My words; abide in you, you will ask what you will, and it will be done for you. In this is My Father glorified: when you produce much fruit; and in this way you become My disciples. Just as the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you; continue in My love. If you keep My Commands, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's Commands, and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be complete. This is My Command: Love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: that one would lay down his life on behalf of his brothers. You are My brothers, if you do whatever I command you."

The Mark verse has to be read in context: "in My Name" None who are truly coming by His power can be against Him, no matter what it appears to be to man, also this is a tough idea to fully understand and honestly this is one that the Spirit can only fully lead to walk and understanding.

Mark 9:39-41,And יהושע said, “Do not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My Name is able to readily speak evil of Me. “For he who is not against us is for us. “For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My Name, because you are of Messiah, truly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward."

Agree and these verses are especially informative ...

And you will dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and you will be My people, and I will be your Father."

verse 27 .... I like the contemporary translation on this verse

Contemporary English Version
because I will put my Spirit in you and make you eager to obey my laws and teachings.

To believe in Jesus means to trust in the person and works of Jesus Christ. This is what saves us. From this then, obedience follows, which are the good fruit of the Holy Spirit. Namely, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control - or in a word, love for God and love for our neighbour.

To illustrate this using John 15, a person either is or isn't part of the tree. If he is, then he will bear good fruit. So in this way, we are not saved by our obedience - for we are not saved by works, but by faith - but obedience is the result of being saved. Very simply, God doesn't need our good works, but our neighbour does. And it's through loving our neighbour that we love God. But this does not cause nor sustain salvation, but is the blessed result of salvation - being molded into the image of Christ. And so, we are created in Christ for good works.

But in John 15 Jesus is speaking only to His 11 faithful apostles. So if being in Christ automatically resulted in bearing fruit then this message would’ve been pointless to give to these 11 men. Also in John 15:2 Jesus says that The Father cuts off every branch in Me that beareth not fruit.

In the Greek applications to "Believe" it means to 'Believe and do". Abiding is always present tense indicative to believing and doing what Gods Word says.

Amen the words faith (pistis) believe (pisteuo) and believer pistos are all forms of the root word pistis or faith and all three imply a level of devotion and obedience

That which was spoken to the apostles applies to us ...

It is this ...

Ezekiel 36
Contemporary English Version

25I will sprinkle you with clean water, and you will be clean and acceptable to me. I will wash away everything that makes you unclean, and I will remove your disgusting idols. 26 I will take away your stubborn heart and give you a new heart and a desire to be faithful. You will have only pure thoughts, 27because I will put my Spirit in you and make you eager to obey my laws and teachings.

Receiving of the Holy Spirit

and when this happens we will bear good fruit because of His Sprit working in us ... and if we abide in Him, He will continue to work in us.

It is the work He does in the believer and not of ourselves.

We must comply with the work. If it’s all from Jesus then John 15:6 would either be an impossibility or it would be Jesus’ work that caused the person to fail to abide. At no time do we ever lose the ability to choose to abide in Christ or not. Each of us has to make that choice every moment of our life.

Yes .... this is true ... but if we are sensitive and attentive to leading and teaching of the Holy Spirit we are willing to comply. ;o)

I fully agree with: “But to me the key is the empowerment, that comes from Him and His power.”, this is not subjective at all. The indwelling Holy Spirit is with you or it is not with you, but only the person where the Spirit is dwelling can for certainty know the Spirit is there or is not with him/her at the time. As from my first post I talked about quenching the Spirit only.

I can know when I have quenched the Spirit and went on my own, but it is usually after the fact. I’m selfishly doing what I am not wanting to do, so I can go back and see when I quenched the Spirit that then allowed me to get in trouble. I did not kick the Spirit out, but did quench the Spirit to sin.

We get to do all these wonderful commands which helps us to grow our Love and appreciate our Love all the more. We have a birthright to heaven (this huge Love feast) which cannot be lost like we loss a set of keys, stolen by anyone, will not be taken back by God, but we can like Esau just give our birthright away. If we have a huge appreciation for Godly type Love, we would never give our birthright away, so God wants our Love to grow, but if we desire only carnal type love (as a result of not keep God’s commands) our birthright becomes worthless to us and we could give it away.

The way I see it He guides is thru the Holy Spirit and it’s up to us to choose whether to comply or not. So when Jesus is telling His apostles to abide in Him and bear fruit I see it as Him telling them to follow and comply with His teachings. This simply means be obedient. Love God and love others, that’s His main message. Faith without love is useless. Like Paul said “if I have all faith so as to move mountains but I have not love, I am nothing”.

John 15

1“I am the true vine, and My Father is the keeper of the vineyard. 2He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, and every branch that does bear fruit, He prunes to make it even more fruitful.

3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me.5I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.

6If anyone does not remain in Me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers. Such branches are gathered up, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, proving yourselves to be My disciples.

I beleive so and here are a few passages why I think this way. I would like to hear others views on this matter and ask that Scripture is used.

John/Yahanan 15:5-16, “I am the vine, you are the branches. You are My brothers, if you do whatever I command you.”

John 12:25-26, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life shall lose it, and he who hates his life in this world shall preserve it for everlasting life." Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.”

Both to enter into the kingdom within us, and without us ...

Yes well the Holy Spirit residing in us is Christ residing in us. This message was given to His disciples before they had received the indwelling Holy Spirit. Instead of having the Holy Spirit to guide them they had Christ at that time and later received the Spirit.

The Holy Spirit has always been active within mankind ... since creation.

before pentecost .... Jesus speaking to Peter

Matthew 16:13

15 “But what about you?” he (Jesus) asked. “Who do you say I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven (through the Holy Spirit).

Agree and these verses are especially informative ...

And you will dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and you will be My people, and I will be your Father."

verse 27 .... I like the contemporary translation on this verse

Contemporary English Version
because I will put my Spirit in you and make you eager to obey my laws and teachings.

I do like the way the is handled, "eager" nice, thank you, praiseYah!
