Brett Hankison, the former Louisville police officer who fatally shot Breonna Taylor, has been indicted by a grand jury on three counts of wanton endangerment in the first degree.
Two other officers involved in the March shooting -- Sgt. John Mattingly and Det. Myles Cosgrove -- were not charged following months of demonstrations calling for the arrests of all the officers. Anticipating unrest, city officials announced a Wednesday night curfew and closed off parts of downtown Louisville.

In June, Det. Brett Hankison was fired for "wantonly and blindly" firing into Taylor's apartment, Louisville's police chief said. Six officers involved in the incident are under internal investigation, LMPD said on Tuesday.

The city of Louisville announced on Sept. 15 a historic $12 million settlement of the family's wrongful death lawsuit. The city also agreed to enact police reforms which include using social workers to provide support on certain police runs and requiring commanders to review and approve search warrants before seeking judicial approval.

Former Louisville Officer Is Indicted in Breonna Taylor Case
A grand jury indicted a former Louisville police officer on Wednesday for wanton endangerment during a botched drug raid that led to the death of Breonna Taylor in March. No charges were announced against the other two officers who fired shots, and no one was charged for causing her death.

The three-count indictment concerns Brett Hankison, a detective at the time, who fired into the sliding glass patio door and window of Ms. Taylor’s apartment building, both of which were covered with blinds, in violation of a department policy that requires officers to have a line of sight.

I was just about to post this. Good news.
Except he was indicted for firing into another apartment. No indictments for the death of this young woman.

I expect that we will see riots in Louisville tonight.

Agreed. This should make everyone angry.

If I was a local taxpayer why are we paying $12 million to her family if the cops didn't do anything wrong?

I suspect Trump will jump on this.

No, this is very BAD news. One cop was slapped on the wrist. Other cops involved got nothing

The peaceful protests are getting nowhere.

Neither are the violent ones some people deny are even happening. Perhaps a change in police ranks is what's needed rather than chants, slogans, or more violence.

No. No change of police rank for murder. That's a slap on the wrist. Murder calls for a change of pulse rate.

Well, changing the "pulse rate" of business owners in the area, or homeless people who happen to get in the way, or passing motorists who don't realize the street now belongs to thugs rather than taxpaying motorists isn't going to help. I think the past few months should have demonstrated that. It certainly has cost enough.

As for the slap on the wrist of the city paying 12 million to Taylor's family--they clearly thought it was enough. They agreed to it.

I read it was wanton endangerment for shooting into a neighbor's apartment.

Law enforcement needs to think if this before they kill innocent people. These cops should be prosecuted and should do serious jail time.

That was from the city. It wasn’t punishment for the cops.

So the police officer paid the family $12 million dollars? Yeah, that was quite a punishment the police officer suffered.

How about taxpayers use the $12 million to help the taxpayers, and the police officer face the same thing we do if just one American is killed by a Muslim? You invade entire countries for that.

No the City paid $12 million. The officers didn’t pay squat. I believe they are still getting paid.

This is one reason why I totally support defunding the police. The police act as agents of the city, and as such, the city is liable whenever an officer hurts an innocent person. That means it is the city's responsibility to make sure that it doesn't happen.

But THEN...you cut the city's legs off, and not let them actually do that. The unions and the state step in. The police chief will even try to fire the guys ("try"???), and you won't let him.

So now, the city has to generously fund the police--AND get stuck with the settlements, whenever the police do...whatever they please. Without say-so in their own matter. If the city--in THEIR judgement--believes they need to defund the police, then let them defund the police.

What country was invaded when one American was killed by a Muslim? What country do you want Louisville to invade because Louisville police killed one person by acting win wanton rdisregard for people's lives.? To even attempt to get a conviction on murder charges the prosecution needs to show intent to kill the person that was killed not just wanton disregard. The prosecutor wants to get a conviction not a hung jury or a not guilty verdict. The total ignorance of most Americans of how the US justice system works can only be ascribed to the absolute incompetence of our education system in matter of history and civics.
