I am having troubles currently, and in the advice forum posted that either God was through action (doing it Himself), or inaction (not acting to intervene) allowing the destruction/removal of the affected areas in my life. On that thread, I had one poster who kept claiming that the above was not Biblical. I think maybe he was arguing the why rather than the “what” of the matter. I was not arguing about His reason (on this point), as in my pain I truly don’t care what the reason is. Is there a reason that God taking something himself or not intervening while the Devil or other agent removes/destroys is not Biblical?

Here is a biblical example that might help.
1 Corinthians 5:
1 It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality
as is not even named among the Gentiles—that a man has his father’s wife!
2 And you are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he who has done this deed might be
taken away from among you.
3 For I indeed, as absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged (as though I were present) him who has so done this deed.
4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, along with my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,
5 deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

I think Job is a good example of God being involved in our lives, and using Satan to accomplish his goals. Joseph’s story, as well. He was clear in Genesis 50:20 that what the brothers intended for evil, God intended for good. It wasn’t a case of God making lemonade out of the brother’s sin. It was God’s plan that was enacted by the sin of the brothers.

God will have a reason why he did or did not act in that area of your life.

I do not know what that might be.

Being a Christian is not a promise of a pain free, trouble free life. It can be the opposite.

Romans 8:28 states that all things work together for thegood of those who are called by God.

Again that does not promise a pain or trouble free life.

What it promises is that God is in control and if you trust him it will work out for your good.

Dr this is your good as defined by God not you or me.

So what does God desire for us?

Is it not to know him, to trust him and to show our love by our obedience to his laws.

Life can be tough, all I know is God will be with you in the worst situation, giving you the strength to get through that day, the peace to sleep at night.
It is never easy. The alternative, go out get drunk etc it is your choose.

The question I asked is why people were using the “reasons” argument (which is what you did as well) while saying that the “what happens” of what I am saying is not Biblical. Reasons for God removing/allowing removal are a side issue to what I was asking about in this thread.

Then what are you asking?

I was asking how people were arguing that God taking something out of your life or allowing it to be taken out by the Devil or other entity (self, other people, etc) was not Biblical. It would seem to be one of those two scenarios, but I had all sorts of people who use the God had reasons argument rather than directly talk about whether or not the principle is biblically sound. It originally was on the advice thread, but seemed to fit better here.

Only you would know if sin caused calamity in your life as a consequence or like Job if God allows satan to cause havoc having nothing to do with personal sin.

There are only 2 options if its not directly related to sin.

The God Almighty
or
the god of this world

hope this helps !!!
