• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I think this is common for OCD. How long have you had OCD? Do you have any help/support for dealing with it?

For a while. I was taking seroquel for a while and it helped but I then found out it was causing weight gain on me. I thought I was gaining weight bc I wasn't moving and stuck in the house bc of covid. But then I ask my pharmacist if the meds cause weight gain and he said yes. So I immediately stopped taking them. I then was taking Prozac but it's not helping me. I'm scheduled to see a doctor on the 17. In the meantime, I can talk to a friend or 2 about it but it's hard

It is hard! Medications can help, but I think it's also important to learn how to manage your thoughts. Have you considered getting therapy, or at least learning about therapy strategies and how to apply them on your own?

I have a therapist and she's now starting to see patients in person again. I haven't spoken to her in a while because it doesn't help over the phone. But hopefully now it will since she's seeing patients

Yes, it's been hard with Covid! Does your therapist have expertise in treating OCD?

I'm not sure. I will ask her when I see/talk to her again. But I have a feeling that my next time session will be my last time session. There's really nothing she can do to help me of what I'm upset about plus her feedback kind of sucks

Then maybe it's time to find a new therapist? At the very least, you can continue learning how to treat OCD and start practicing the strategies on your own. I can suggest some resources if you like!

I'm suffering about this intense fear. Is anyone else going through this?

I love this scripture..... 2 Timothy 1.7. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but he has given us a spirit of love, of POWER, and a SOUND MIND. It’s saying God is not doing that to you. Fear is not coming from me. Rather I have given you a Spirit of love, a SPIRIT OF POWER, and the SPIRIT OF A SOUND MIND. Fear causes you to have unsoundness of mind. Fear is such a bully. And a big fat liar. It takes ur peace away if you believe the thoughts and feelings it brings. YoU actually have power over it! He says in the same verse.....I have GIVEN you a SPIRIT OF POWER. It’s YOU who has power over it! THATS the TRUTH.
I used to whine, cry, and beg God to deliver me from it. Took me years to understand. It’s not something he is going to do. It’s something he has already done. I HAVE GIVEN YOU (past tense). It’s about KNOWING who you are in Christ. He has already given you his power by the Holy Spirit who dwells IN you.
Another verse.....Jesus said, I give you power over ALL the power of the enemy!
Another verse.....Colossians 1 says....Who HAS DELIVERED us from the POWER OF DARKNESS.
He already delivered us from its power when he died and rose. Again, past tense. Done deal.
You shall know the TRUTH and the TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE.

This is common. God is with you no matter your fears or obsessional thoughts.

Remember Job. He didn't feel so good (to say the least) but God was right there the whole time. Even though we may not feel Him or His love.

It's important that you see a therapist that specializes in anxiety and OCD. My therapist recommended Freedom from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder by Jonathan Grayson. It's on Amazon. It's also important to know that the treatment for OCD thoughts is not to attempt to get them out of your head (that actually causes them to stay); it uses exposure to help them lose their emotional impact on you.
