I have been taking fitness seriously for nearly a year and have lost over 10kgs since. I am becoming more confident in my skin and enjoy life better. I am active every day, from walking and running with my dogs. And I joined a crossfit team for about 7 months and my trainer is very helpful. He encourages and guides me to reach my goal.
It was so tough at first but every day I get stronger and it is noticed!

I found that being active every day and not drinking cola and fast foods makes a significant difference!

Best of wishes for you to stay on the healthy path :D

I usually stick with the same diet everyday (or most days), consisting of 1 to 2 meals.

It's usually:
4-5 scrambled eggs with half a diced onion, 1 diced whole jalapeno, and 1oz diced ham, 1 cup spinach

It's simple to follow, no complex grocery list, and takes less than 10mins to make.

Saturday's are usually 12 wings or couple of slices of whole foods pizza or sushi.

The food supply is very polluted. Grains are full of glyphosate and atrazine residues, the water is full of meds, fluoride, and heavy metals.

I like it. The more limited your food choices the better your gut biome operates, as long as you provide the materials for complete nutrition. Better digestion means that you need less food to get complete nutrition and energy (saves money and time).

I have distilled my drinking and cooking water for nearly 50 years, so polluted water isn't a problem (I also have a filter on my shower head). I weigh 30 pounds less than I did in high school, and my waist size is one inch less. :D

What about the rest of you? What do you do? Anything you'd care to share?

Congrats on your increased physical fitness level!

I have always been athletic and it has been easy to maintain as I have been incarcerated a good portion of the last 2 decades.

However, after paroling about a year ago, I haven't really done any focused workouts as I did inside...you know the yard routine: bar work, burpees, sports (mainly basketball). I have been doing a lot of bicycling, but I have an E-Bike so it's a little different than conventional.

I rarely smoke or eat pork or eat any of the other unclean meats. I have noticed that I don't eat as much, though I don't really closely monitor my caloric intake. I don't eat a lot of sweets either.

I finally came to this forum (didn't really know it was here), because I will be turning it up here soon as being health conscious relates to the lifestyle brand I am developing.

So, being that I am getting up there in years, I want to give it one more good push (I'm not gonna say the "last"...Lord willing) to become more physically fit now than ever before!

So then, I will be hovering around this forum and hopefully some personal trainers or others who have a good grasp of nutrition and exercise will give us some insights.

Happy to hear about your change!!
I haven't been doing much to change, really. I need to get 25-30 pounds off. The only think I'm doing is walking an hour every now and then, and sometimes I go bike riding. Usually, crazy schedules mess up with creating a consistent habit out of it.

Dieting is my main issue to be honest. Some 7 years ago I went through a diet with a couple coworkers; it did work, mainly because we had the mutual support we needed to stick to it and accomplish our goal. I think that part of what I need to do is to create a new support network to really commit to a weight loss journey. Gym is a no-go for me; I never liked the environment, so I'll continue to stick to fast-paced walking and cycling, both of which I should be doing in a more consistent basis.

I dont weigh myself but I have continously strived my whole life to eat healthy. Right now I have a diet similar to paleo/keto, where i eat high amounts of fat and meat and low amounts of carbs. I need to eat more greens. I also do elimination diet. I have realized unfortunately that tomatoes destroy my stomach, unfortunately (two of the word because very dissapointed). but i also try to make everything from scratch. when you are in a home where you have to make everything to eat, then you dont want to eat as much as you used to think lol.

i do weight lifting and yoga. Wieght lifting is what will keep you fit for life. yoga is good getting those hidden muscles, flexibility, and a good cardio replacement for people who have terrible knees.

I've eaten differently at different times in my life. My mother was a health-conscious stay-at-home mom when my siblings and I were young, and we ate mostly home-made food and healthy foods until we were adolescents, when my mother took a job outside of the home.

After that, our family ate a more "typical" American diet, but still probably more balanced and healthy than a lot of families'. We hardly ever ate out or ordered in and we had minimal junk food in the house. We packed our lunches for school rather than buying them in the cafeteria.

Even though my siblings and I deviated from the healthy, balanced way of eating we had been raised on as we got older and gained more freedom, eventually we all went back to being generally healthy eaters. Much of that can likely be attributed to the fact that our mother taught us all how to cook, and we all enjoy cooking, so we don't like or rely on prepared foods or restaurant fare.

From my teenage years until recently, my diet was vegetarian or mostly vegetarian, and for a while closer to vegan. But I found that that diet wasn't ideal for my body. I developed various health issues from the lack of animal nutrients in my diet and my hereditary anemia was worsened by vegetarianism, regardless of taking vitamins and supplements.

After quitting vegetarianism altogether, my overall health has greatly improved. I'm actually eating fewer vegetables than I have in my entire life, but my body is thriving on the animal nutrients it was deprived of for so many years. I still enjoy vegetables, as I always have, but they no longer form the base of my diet.

The lesson I've learned from experimenting with different diets for optimal health is that intuitive eating and moderation works best for me. I eat "real", whole foods that are minimally processed for the most part, organic (when I think it makes a difference), and I eat more fat and protein, vegetables and fruit than I do grain, which I find that my body has a harder time processing.

For the most part I eat whatever I want, and I enjoy what I eat. My body knows what it needs and when it's had enough or too much of something, and its intuition has proven to be a more reliable guide than the advice of nutrition experts.

I try to honor God by taking care of His temple with what I put into it, which I believe is important, but I don't obsess over what I eat. Moderation, and listening to one's own body, is key to good nutrition.

Did you say 5-6 a day?!

Very high protein diet I would imagine. And a lot of carbs. Huh?

Timed protein, but yes more than I used to eat and low carb, though vegetables and fruits, I can have as much as I want. Lots of beans, nuts and olive oil.

With the gyms being closed, I've had to get creative... I go to a few of the parks that have fitness stations, and use those...

For the food intake, I've dropped my overall caloric intake by about 400 calories per day. (as the "park workouts" don't quite burn the same amount as being able to spend 1-hr, 4 days a week, in an actual gym).

Back in my 20's, I had a slight weight issue, nothing serious, but I was about 230 lbs at around 6 foot 1. (and not the John Cena kind of 230 lol)

But some years back, I dropped 40-50lbs, and now at age 37, I tend to hover anywhere between 175-185.

As far as food goes, I'm a 2-meal-a-day sort of person.

Although I'm not a vegetarian, I have trended more toward "plant based" over the past couple years.

I gave up beef & dairy milk (replaced it with almond milk) about 2-3 years ago. (only red meat I eat is the occasional bison from a farm that's about 10 miles from where I live).

Gave up 90% of the pork intake.
Gave up about 50% of my chicken intake.

I guess a "day of eating" for me would be something like
Morning - protein shake (usually Vega or Hemp protein powder and almond milk)
Lunch - some sort of beans or lentils, some rice, and a green vegetable
Dinner - 4-6oz chicken breast, some potatoes, and a green vegetable

Couple nights a week, I'll crack open a craft beer or two.

I give myself one "cheat day" per week to keep the sanity, on that day, it's usually chipotle for lunch, pizza for dinner.

It's mainly pushing myself to walk and drinking water. On an average day that means at least two periods of walking thirty minutes or more. Doesn't have to be outside though getting some fresh air and seeing the natural splendor can help mentally.

I'm "off again on again Finnigan" when it come to exercise. I just started lifting weights (again) hoping to gain a few pounds of muscle. I already am feeling great after just a few sessions, even mentally. Exercise does wonders for the whole person.

JS: agreed, I like to walk around our property but its been raining too much lately. Still, we might finally be getting a dry spell so perhaps it will dry out enough I walk in the forest again.

I posted a pilates video you may enjoy. The feed is free. It could be a helpful option for busy days or poor weather.

Thanks. I noticed I already do most of these exercises already between my resistance training, aerobics and ti chi and Qi Gong.
