Ok last post about gifts today I promise. So when I was born again I heard a voice plainly tell me “Discernment”. This is the only gift (as of right now) that I believe I’m operating in. I just wanted to see if I could find other believers here using/experiencing this gift to see if I could learn and grow. Or if there is any reading material, etc that someone may recommend on the subject. Thank you all, have a good night and a wonderful week.

Having discernment is good but discerning of spirits is better. All the gifts listed in I Cor 12 work by The Holy Spirit; otherwise, it's us.

Here's examples of the discerning of spirits:

"These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation." This truth was stated about Paul and Silas. What could be wrong with that? After she followed them many days saying this, Paul commanded, in the name of Jesus, for the evil spirit of divination to leave her and it did the same hour. (Acts 16). In spite of the truth being stated, The Holy Spirit knew her motivation.

'...Peter said to him, “Ananias, why did you let Satan fill your heart and make you think you could lie to the Holy Spirit? You only pretended to give it all, yet you hid back part of the proceeds from the sale of your property to keep for yourselves." How did Peter know? God revealed their secret to Peter Acts 5

An example of discerning of a Godly spirit '"And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision." Gal 2:9

Noticed that it was Paul, not Barnabas, that they had this perception about.

Discernment, in regards to seeing the truth, happens when your consciousness is vacant from falsehoods. That is, your consciousness is being unconditionally honest with what it knows is true. In this state of mind, mind is in harmony, in resonance, with the Spirit of Truth. Truth merges together with your unconditionally honest consciousness. Truth expresses itself onto your thoughts and feelings, hence, discerning the truth.

One must have a clear conscience. A penitent soul, no secrets, no fear of judgement, and an absolute love for the Truth (which is faith). Then, and only then, will Truth merge within the same space of your consciousness.

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us discernment, so that we may know who is genuine; moreover, we are united with the One who is genuine, united with his Son Yeshua the Messiah. He is the genuine God and eternal life.

I think that it is learning to tune in to the spiritual presence around you. It is difficult to describe. I can give an example, I think,...Let's say that one of your parents was an alcoholic. So when you see someone in a store shopping, someone that you do not know. You can sort of tell that they are an alcoholic, they have that alcoholic spirit. Or the same with depression etc. Then you will know how to pray for that person, quietly. Maybe no one else has prayed for that person, you know?
I also think that with discernment, it concerns knowing the counterfeit, like tellers can with money in a bank. They know it because, they know the real thing and deal with money all day so when something fake comes along, it stands out. It is the same with discernment, when we know the truth and walk in it, then we can know the fake when it comes around. Does that make sense?

I'd say the bible is the best thing to read. I believe desernment comes from experience like by his love said, and the help of the the holy ghost/spirit. And using scripture to discern.

This was written many centuries ago (~7th), and though it was addressed to monks, I believe we too might gain some benefit from it.

I just wonder how you can distinguish whether the spiritual presence around us is the Holy Spirit, or New Age mysticism?

Find many believe they have discernment which is good but there are differences between discernment and the discernment of spirits. The latter is from the Holy Spirit who guides us to all truth. When the manifestations of the spiritual gifts are stated, it says given by the Spirit (I Cor 12).

Amen, I suppose for a example I will try to explain.
Sometimes you see a person, and in your spirit the truth of what is driving that person rises up in you.
You know beyond a doubt one of two things, the person is a Spirit filled person of God, or something dark is resting on their being.

My son and I were out, and I looked at a man.
I became overwhelmed in knowing what dark things he was doing.
I had never seen the man before, so when we left I went to my phone and checked for pedophiles in my area.
His face popped up immediately.
I told my Son the man was one before we left.
He was no threat to us as my Son is a grown Man yet still the evil that man had was very strong.
Sometimes you do not know what they are or what is pushing their spirit
you just know it is dark.
There have been times it has taken years to find out, yet in Gods time He will reveal the truth.
One thing for certain is, the gift is The Holy Spirit guiding you in your walk for his purposes.
We do not discern anything ourselves or when we want to show off.
That is fake.
The Gifts are given by God at his time.

Even our faithful Prayer can help others, it does not take a mircial worker to earnestly pray for someone and have faith it will come to pass.
Once a person knows they have been gifted, the Holy Spirit will give increase of the Gift or gifts, but I would pray for God's Wisdom in all things.
