I like the old Methodist way sanctification was taught. If the old timers could not sense the sweet spirit of Christ in the experience they would tell you to come back tomorrow night. And smile a little as they said it, especially knowing that there were revivals and good services ahead.

My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you... - Galatians 4:19

Once the Christ was formed the soul was considered sanctified.

Now, Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

Sanctification is an on-going process throughout our earthly life time

being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

And.... How much of sanctification is just simple faith....

Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. - Acts 26:17-18

First, faith in Jesus is more than just believing in the person of Jesus alone, but it is believing in everything He taught, and commanded us. If we are not obeying Jesus, then we are not really believing in Him.

Jesus said,
“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46).

All of the Bible is a part of the faith, and our Bible is filled with lots of commands that are a part of our Progressive Sanctification.

Romans 10:17 says faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God.
Hearing can also mean to obey.

Second, in Theology, there are three tenses of Sanctification. Here is a quote from an article:

A Christian can say, “I am sanctified, I am being sanctified, and I will be sanctified.” The Bible presents three tenses of sanctification:

  1. Past. Definitive or positional sanctification occurs when God sets people apart for himself at the moment they become Christians (e.g., Acts 20:32; 26:18; Rom 1:7; 6; 1Cor 1:2; 6:11; Eph 1:1; 5:3; Col 1:2, 12; 3:12; 2Thes 1:10; Heb 10:10, 14; Jude 3; Rev 13:7).
  2. Present. Progressive sanctification is the ongoing, incomplete, lifelong maturing process in which a Christian gradually becomes more holy (e.g., John 17:17; 2Cor 3:18; 7:1; Phil 1:6; 1Thes 4:3–4, 7; Heb 12:14; 2Pet 3:11).
  3. Future. Ultimate sanctification corresponds to glorification (e.g., Phil 3:21; 1Thes 3:13; 5:23; Jude 24). This happens after death when God sets his people apart from sin’s presence and possibility.

(Note: I am in agreement only with this portion of the article. I am not in agreement with the author or the website because they are reformed or Calvinist; For I find Calvinism to be highly unbiblical and immoral; But for theological demonstrated purposes, I have quoted a truth that they just so happen to get right.).

Anyways, the best way of understanding the word “Sanctification” is that it is a cleansing or washing (like with water).

#1. We are cleansed (sanctified) of our past sins when we received Jesus and His grace,
#2. We are being cleansed (sanctified) in the Sanctification Process by putting away sin, living more holy, and doing good works over the course of our life by all three persons of the Godhead or Trinity working through us.
#3. We are being cleansed (sanctified) in having a new spiritual body when we are glorified and taken home to be with God (Note: We also one day later in the future also have a new physical flesh and blood body after the DNA of Jesus Christ, as well).

"If we are not obeying Jesus, then we are not really believing in Him." I know what 1st John says.. so to you is knowing the same as believing? For it is not the same. What you said is not written.

If we say we know Him but do not keep His word/commandments we are liars/truth is not in us. Many believed in Jesus yet never met Him or knew Him... they just believed. He did tell the 12 after some years if you love me you will keep my words. How can you love someone you don't know. You can believe in them have faith in what you can not see.. yet you hope for.. the evidence of again things not seen. So don't take my word for it.. don't believe me.. you seek you search you find. I am not right.. I will not boast..for no man will glory in His sight. Only He is right no my personally belief. Seems MANY leave this out.. odd

To the OP yes and on going no? :)
