Hello, I am new to forums. Here to get answers about what my purpose is as someone who has cognitive disorder and mild autism. Not sure what use I am in church or what God intends for people like me. I grew up in church and always “practiced” religion by going to church and doing what I’m told and supposed to do, but I never felt like I belonged or understood why we had to do all this stuff on checklist A just to be worthy of forgiveness already given.
I am 49 now and even more confused as ever regarding autism and spirituality. I blame cognitive disorder due to brain injury while serving in the USAF. Seems to be getting worse, so not sure where life is going to take me, but I keep faith in Jesus that He won’t let me fail. It’s the only thing I have that keeps me hopeful. Thank you for prayers in this regard.

Welcome to CF!

Think of the church as a hospital and Christ as the physician.

Matthew 9:12 On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.

Hi AFLady,

WELCOME TO CF!

If you are in the USAF; that is quite an accomplishment for someone who is going through what you are going through. They have very high standards. Accolades! Perhaps you can find purpose here helping others who suffer from your condition; to help them work past their perceived limitations.

Hello AFLady71, WELCOME TO CF

I don't know what God's specific purpose for your life is, of course, but it seems to me that you are already fulfilling His general purpose* for you as His adopted daughter, by glorifying Him, enjoying Him, and by being a blessing to others because of Him/in His name .. e.g. Psalm 16:11; Lamentations 3:24; Matthew 5:14-16; Acts 1:8. You've already been a blessing here at CF, even though you've only made one post so far :)

Praying for you.

God bless you!

--David

1 Thessalonians 5
23 May the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body
be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.

*From The Westminster Shorter Catechism, Q & A #1.

Q. What is the chief end of man?
A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy Him for ever.

Welcome to CF. US Navy here and a disabled Vet. I know what it is to deal with disability.

God still loves you, irregardless of the kind of disability you deal with.

Hello Lady and welcome! You are here to love and praise God in good times and bad. It seems to me that you are doing this. You are an encouragement to all who struggle when things don't go their way. God bless you.
