I don’t get the boomer hate. This is the most unprecedented time in earning capacity. The entry to entrepreneurship has never been easier. You can work from home and generate an income without overhead. Plenty are doing so.

sorry but I purposely don't post where I live because of other forums where I saw forum members make it their mission to discover who people are & then harass
How would knowing what state someone lives in allow for any kind of harassment? I won’t press you for the info, but frankly that is nonsensical. I don’t even know your name.

I heard on news of parents taking their son to court because he wouldn't leave their house-think he was 30
There's also one about where a guy tried to sue his parents for allowing him to be born.

We live in such a twisted up world.

Based on what I see on CF now, I guess neighbor in "love thy neighbor" has been redefined to mean those in your age group, who live as you do, and those who generally agree with you.

If they are not like you, you do not need to love them as they are not your neighbor anymore. Heck, we not only don't love them, but we also won't even tolerate them without issue.

ETA, some cultures "demand" (traditionally unacceptable to vary) their adult children live in the family home until they marry. If they never marry, they do not move out. The US is made up of many cultures. A little tolerance would be refreshing, but I don't expect it anymore.

totally disagree....

we have all ages in our neighborhood, from single men, several single woman, to marrieds with up to 4 kids, young couples up to couples in their low 80s, Asians, African -Americans, Caucasians, SAHMs, to working couples, cat owners, many dog owners....

our preteen (noncaucasian) is friends with all the kids in neighborhood, we've hosted a neighborhood gathering and so have others

there used to be a Pastor on our street so they had Bible studies in their home for neighbor kids & summer vacation Bible school outside

there's a church practically on every corner in our town & we attend more than one so know many Christians in town of all ages

on our street- in winter people will even shovel other's sidewalks/driveway if they need help
also, rake leaves for others & mow others yards when their mower breaks (husband included as a helper)

shoveling in freezing temps, if that's not love, what is?

I've never had the option to live with my parents (as an adult). They just don't believe in that. So, I went looking for a house in Detroit 30 years ago. It was so cheap, I was able to pay it off quickly. Now I live payment free. I know some states don't allow this option (really cheap housing). But, it worked for me.

I concur as does our preteen who wants to go to college, get a job, and get her own house

looking forward to meals at her house, lol

Christian Love is a lot of things, much of which is not visible (seen). It is related to the state of one's heart (attitude), and what comes out our mouths (words), not just one's action.

Cost of housing has also skyrocketed in the past 30 years. The median house back in 1990 was $79k in 2010 the median house price was $220k. Compared to average incomes back then, a house cost 2.6 and 4.5 times as much as your yearly income. And for comparison purposes, the ratio in 1980 was about 2.6 as well, so really it's only been about 30 years since the cost of housing has jumped so beyond most people's means.

I'm 34 and live in an area that has a high cost of living and low income. The median household income around here is probably somewhere around $52,410. I've lived at home with my family all my life and still do and probably will for the foreseeable future. My income over the years has never been enough to allow me to live on my own, and I've sometimes worked two jobs at a time, still not making enough due to other expenses. I'm thankful I have such a good relationship with my family, and the arrangement we have works well. It's still tough, sometimes.

I own my home in a mobile home park. My parents live with me. I bought it at $4,000. 20 plus years ago. My neighbor bought the same type of mobile home for $70,000 plus last year. But regular houses in poorer areas, are more, than$200,000 plus. No joke. Why should someone pay that much?

Because if they don't, someone else will and they'll be left out in the rain.

To be honest, I don't think everyone is suited to making a good living as an entrepreneur.

That said, from where I'm sitting (born 1980, so just on the cusp of Gen X/millennial) the angst about boomers isn't just about earning capacity. It's about workplace culture and attitudes as well (among other things). When capable, educated, qualified, experienced professionals of up to forty years old are consistently belittled, demeaned, undermined, and so on by boomer-aged workplace gatekeepers and the like, it does give rise to the temptation to bitterness.

I also think, @christine40, that the idea of buying a fixer-upper and doing the work on it yourselves depends on having the knowledge, skills and resources to do that work, and not everyone does.

A fixer upper in my area would be $200,000.
