Why would anyone care about who a priest thinks they should or shouldn't vote for?
tulc(just a little curious)
1. It's his full time job to guide people in living their lives in obedience to God.
2. God doesn't change. And humans can't change God to try and fit what humans think He should be like, or change the rules that God gave humans to live by.

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever
Isaiah, Chapter 40, Verse 8

For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
2 Timothy, Chapter 4, Verse 3

...I was under the impression that was the Bibles job?

2. God doesn't change.
Well...except for when He does of course.

And humans can't change God to try and fit what humans think He should be like,
Unless, apparently, you're a priest, then you can tell people who they should or shouldn't vote for?

or change the rules that God gave humans to live by.
(snip)
I wasn't aware that there even was a rule book that told people they should vote for who ever priests told them to vote for...what's the name of that book and where can I get one? Because I was under the impression that people were supposed to just vote for who ever they wanted to vote for, no priests or bishops opinions needed.
tulc(thanks in advance for the name of that book)

A Wisconsin priest who condemned Catholic Democrats has the support of a Texas bishop.

Father James Altman, pastor of St. James the Less Catholic Church, lashed out at Father James Martin, who participated in the Democratic National Convention. In a 10-minute video posted to YouTube, Altman called the priest a “hyper, confusing spreading heretic” and had harsh words toward Democrats.

So...would you apply that same rule to someone who hasn't renounced repeatedly breaking the Sixth Commandment?

That's different. WFTH-I.

A priest who gets into the business of approving or disapproving political parties has abandoned Christ and joined the world.

Despite the Democrats' insistence that they are "pro-choice," which is a very misleading term, they are actually pro-abortion. Considering the fact that hundreds of thousands of abortions happen every year in the United States, it is not an understatement to claim there is a real genocide occurring in our country. Indeed, being in the womb is arguably the most dangerous place to be in America, especially when you take into account the sheer amount of pregnancies that end in abortion. Irrespective of whether someone is Catholic, Protestant, or other Christian, it is therefore an egregious sin to vote for a political party that has been enabling this horrific genocide against the unborn. The said priest was right to take his principled stand. I wish more Christians would come out and condemn abortion in the strongest possible terms.

And yet, you're a republican. Your party is supporting a man who cheated on his wife with another woman, and when she got pregnant, gave her money and told her to "get rid of it."

That's your guy. I see a bit of a disconnect here.

There needs to be more priests like Altman willing to call out fake Catholics like Biden and Pelosi. Same goes for all Christian traditions if they have any one representing their denomination.

Why should anyone take umbrage and Fr Altman for voicing his opinion when Biden gets away with saying he's a Catholic without doing anything to actually promote Catholic moral teaching in the public space? Same goes for Pelosi, these Catholic politcians could care less about Catholic teaching only the prestige that accompanies a descriptor or identity.

It's like a liberal Jew touting his Jewish identity when he's an atheist and thinks the Torah is nonsense.

Good on Fr Altman.

When Biden pays off a woman he's gotten pregnant in adultery, telling her to use the money to "get rid of it." Then he'll be a hypocrite on the level of Donald Trump.

In Christian thinking, one should be an imitation of Christ. Biden has tried to act in that manner, although like all of us, he fails from time to time.

Donald Trump has used the Ten Commandments like bathroom tissue. If you'd like examples, we can bring them up again. Do we need to?

Except Biden is Christian, believes in God and thinks the Bible is the word of God. Otherwise the same. WFTH-I

If you're going to do stuff like this, the first rule is "never let your target get you upset." Take a second before you post and think. You'll be a lot more effective that way.

Rumours are viscious things. Who knows if that's true. Maybe it is and maybe it isn't yet what I think you misunderstand about Christian support for Donald Trump is that it's mostly pragmatic. Donald Trump isn't a saint but he's more pro-life than any republican thus far and his promotion of Christianity as a cultural value integral to America defies the secular norm.

So Christian support for Trump isn't based on his moral worth, because let's face it, he's not a Louis the pious. He's more like a Constantine. Deeply flawed but advances Christianity.

Except when it comes to actually putting any policy into effect that's in line with his Catholicism. Biden wants to force the Little Sisters to provide contraception. He wants to fund abortion using federal tax dollars.

Biden wouldn't dare produce any sort of legislation that was fundamentally Christian in nature. He supports homosexuality, he supports trans people and this new gender ideology.

Now, you can admit that he's not a good Christian and still agree with the policy he promotes. Secularist and contrary to Christianity it is. Being pragmatic isn't a sin.

Trump has admitted it. Would you like me to show you?

How does giving his lover money and telling her to "get rid of it" when she tells him she's pregnant, advance Christianity?

How does betraying three wives in turn with other women "advance Christianity?"

How does habitual lying "advance Christianity?"

This is a guy who has made a life's goal of trashing every value Christians hold.

So Christian support for Trump isn't based on his moral worth

No kidding.

I agree. Trump is as bad as the Democrat party.

Which is like saying that drinking Drano is as bad as eating moldy bread.

Biden is, like all of us, a sinner. So is Trump. The difference is, Trump revels in sinning and betraying people; Biden tries to do what is right.

The problem for me isn't about Catholics supporting the Democratic platform, but the priest claiming they'll face the fires of hell.

The Church never declares who's going to hell, but that they leave all up to God's mercy.

Even when a person dies in the state of mortal sin, which is grave, the Church unconditionally prays for that soul and for God to be merciful

Yep. I don't know what that priest was thinking. And the bishop in Texas certainly should know better.

That being said, a person who commits an abortion, or induces another to do so, is surely in danger of eternal damnation.

That was a great message, but highly partisan. There is much evil coming from the Republicans as well. I wish that there were more like him, who weren't as partisan, and who would speak out about all of the evils of all of our leadership.. Yahshua did it. John the Baptist did it. Christians should follow their examples, and unite to speak out against these evils. So long as these wicked leaders divide us; they will prevail at pushing forth one form of evil or another.

So apparently increasing funding to food assistance programs...

This is a false narrative. Every Catholic on the planet is free to donate within their means or in whatever amount they with to support food assistance programs without the direct consent or involvement of the Catholic Church institution. What the Church does with donations is still up to the Church, but I read nothing in the OP article which stated anyone was against providing support for food assistance programs.

...increase in funding to community health services...

This is a bromide. As has been illustrated by many cases in the recent past what a significant percentage of Catholics are opposed to is the government mandating all aspects of what health services the Church must provide. The Sandra Fluke idiocy comes to mind.

...reducing mass incarceration...

What would you do with murderers, rapist, child molesters, drug dealers, pedophiles, anarchist...oh, wait, we are witnessing right now how the Democrat party treats anarchist. They make them heroes and allow them to loot and burn and beat up the elderly and kill children all with the tacit approval of the Democrat party.

That can't possibly fall within the tenets of Catholic doctrine.

...achieving racial justice...

Perhaps a few hours studying into the Civil Rights era and the various Civil Rights acts promoted and legislated since the end of the American Civil War would be in order for you. Racial justice does not mean racial superiority, but at this moment in history racial superiority is exactly what the Democrat Party is promoting.

...eliminating violence against women...

This is a trope, designed to promote the lie only white conservative Christian men ever ever ever commit violence against women. There is no rape culture in American society, nor are women considered property. Those two conditions certainly do exist in the world, but the Democrat party is far too busy groveling before those cultures who do embrace violence against women to ever do anything about it.

...making it easier to achieve refugee status...

You mean flood the country with new Democrat voters.

...providing a high quality education regardless of zip code...

Do you actually mean to say the American Public School system isn't satisfying the educational needs of America's children? And who runs the American Public School system?

...and others things are against the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Like demonizing the police to the point where the Democrat Party's beloved anarchist are gunning down uniformed police officers in the street while others dance around with glee because two cops got "aired out"? Where does such behavior fall within the teachings of the Catholic Church?

You've got a really skewed idea of what the US prison population is like...
BOP Statistics: Inmate Offenses

anarchist

It's not illegal to be an anarchist. Thought you knew.

...oh, wait, we are witnessing right now how right-wing anarchists are murdering police officers.
Members of a shadowy movement known as the Boogaloo Boys have been implicated in a series of violent protests and the distribution of misinformation regarding the COVID-19 coronavirus and in violent racial protests in a number of cities in the U.S. In addition, the Boogaloo Boys have been specifically mentioned in charging documents against Steven Carrillo filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Carrillo is charged with killing a member of the Federal Protective Service and wounding another. In addition, he has been charged with killing a sheriff’s deputy in Santa Cruz County, California.

The Boogaloo Boys, of which Carrillo is alleged to be a member, have been deeply involved with disinformation activities following the lockdowns related to COVID-19.

In a report made public on June 17, 2020, Blackbird.AI traces these activities including the armed mob that protested at the Michigan statehouse on May 1, 2020, and the subsequent flood of disinformation to the Boogaloo Boys.
Boogaloo Movement Tied To Murder, Violence And Disinformation During ProtestS

These are the guys in Michigan about whom Trump urged the governor to "make a deal" with them.

But it's still not illegal to be an anarchist. It's illegal to kill police, which is what we see some right-wing anarchists doing.
