Exactly my point. So Scientifically speaking, Trump is only responsible for the difference between his policies and say, Hillary's response.

I see people not wearing masks in the grocery store. Would those people not exist if not for Trump? Maybe. Maybe not.
Didn't Trump encourage no mask for the longest time. Maybe if he encouraged mask wearing and obeying leaders. People would obey.

I suspect, and it's only a suspicion, that there's a correlation between how seriously a country's leaders are seen to be taking the COVID-19 situation, and how seriously its general population are taking it.

If Trump had come out in early February and said:

"This is a novel coronavirus. Novel as in new. That means there's a lot we don't know about it yet.

But, I know that it is serious. It's life threatening. And its not going to go away quickly. So, lets err on the side of caution for the good of the country.

I'm recommending that all Americans wear a mask for their own safety and the safety of their families, loved ones, neighbours and communities. I'm recommending that all Americans follow CDC recommendations when it comes to hygiene, social distancing and other simple precautions.

I'm recommending that all Americans follow the instructions of their state and local authorities when it comes to movement restrictions.

I'm setting up an expert panel which will provide a national framework to guide our response to the coronavirus, based on the best evidence available at the time.

I'm setting up a bi-partisan, multicameral task force to work with the expert panel to ensure that its recommendations are compatible with the best principles of governance, are legal, workable and communicated properly.

I urge all Americans to think not only of yourselves, but of your communities and the lives that you can save by taking the proper precautions, acting responsibly and behaving in a way that reflects the seriousness of the crisis which is upon us".

But, if I were living in that big of a fantasy land, Hillary may as well be president (and I suspect US deaths would be a fraction of what they are now).

I tell people that are experiencing regret: The only thing you could know about "if things had been different" is that things would be different.

To that end I regularly say, the best part about Trump winning in 2016 is that I haven't spent the last 4 years trying to defend Clinton.

Offense is always more enjoyable than defense. Clinton was a dislikable candidate, but I still believe she would have made a really good US president.

However, as an outsider to the US, I was continually surprised at the vehemence of the objection to her in traditionally conservative/strongly Republican parts of the country.

I cast my memory back to an episode of BBC's Top Gear from 2007, when the presenters drove through Alabama and decorated each other's cars with slogans with the objective of getting their co-presenters "shot or killed". Jeremy Clarkson put 'Hillary for President' on James May's car. To quote May: "That woman is the arch Democrat. She's the anti-Christ" (from the perspective of those living in this "deep Republican territory").

It's a sad "milestone" for our country.

The United States is a broken country. led by a man who will not tell the truth to the American people nor lead the country to confront a common enemy. Instead, he deflects and blames governors.

What other leader does that?

Nobody is talking about Hillary or what her administration might have done except you.
