Because if you don't believe the enemies of Christ and mankind are real, you are in spiritual terms essentially a sitting duck.
Is it not written in St. John's first epistle,
"greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world."? (1 John 4:4)
And has not St. Paul also said,
"for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control."? (2 Timothy 1:7)
And if, therefore, as the Apostle says elsewhere, that we are "more than conquerors through Him who loves us" and continuing saying, "For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:37-39) Why then should we fear that which has been defeated and has no power over us?
Has not Christ Himself crushed the skull of that old snake? Has He not crushed the gates of hell beneath His feet? Has He not liberated the captives? Has He not rose from the dead?
"Christ is risen from the dead,
Trampling down death by death,
And to those in the tombs,
Bestowing life."
