Am I saved, or am I stumbling over the stumbling block?

The last time I officially got saved was Monday (August 31st). Then, like on other occasions previous, I really tried to "look" at Christ and open the door of my heart. I came to understand I was saved for real. But between my OCD and my wondering about whether my Christianity is all in my head and not in my heart, I can still question whether or not I am really saved.

Read Romans 9:30-33. The David Jeremiah Study Bible notes on 32-33 say:

"The Jews could not attain righteousness by the works of the law (Gal. 2:16, Phil. 3:9). Their rejection of the Messiah was clearly prophesied in Psalm 118:22 and Isaiah 28:16-19. Because Israel was committed to righteousness out of their works, they stumbled at the stumbling stone and fell over the offer of righteousness through faith in the finished work of Christ (1 Cor. 1:23; 1 Peter 2:6-8)."

Since understanding myself to be saved on Monday, I have switched out of full-time seeking salvation to going full steam ahead with other plans. My plans, of course, include Bible reading and prayer. But just this morning, on reading Romans 9 and the David Jeremiah study notes, I got to thinking: what if I'm still depending on myself for my salvation? What if I've stumbled at the stumbling block, just like the Jews? What if my having "sincerely" given my life to Christ is what I'm depending on, and I'm not really, in my heart, depending on Him?

One thing I've concluded is, being born again is a real, supernatural experience and phenomenon. One can have some psychological/mental/emotional experience, and call it salvation, without really being, supernaturally, born again.

Hello @Robert8102 made a posting on many different scriptures. I'm going to share the post with you of all scriptures that are in and through out the bible.

@Robert8102 If you have become a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, who died, was buried, and was rose again. That is great! There are many scriptures that can help in understanding. If you are truly seeking, desiring God, and Jesus Christ, please look to the word of God, read Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and the other books of course just know this. God can change you by the spirit that he gives, he changes us into a new creation. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

  • It takes a long time for the fruit of the spirit to bear fruit in a believer. It can take several years, it is never going to be over night. A rose before it flourishes has to grow first, or a grape vine must grow and pruned back to bear much fruit.

Watching a show from my teacher this morning. You know He mentions praying for all people he knows, even people that have attacked and mocked him, and how prayer helps soften our heart towards other people when we give the earthly nature of what ever may be going around us by others, to God in allowing him to take care of matters which are simply out of our hands, and how it softens the heart.

(1 Timothy 2:1-3 prayer and peace, Colossians 1:3-12 thanksgiving and prayer, Romans 12:18 peace, Hebrews 12:14 finding grace and strength)

As believers we have Christ in us. (Romans 8:10-20)

If it is possible for us to just make prayers for all men/women/children/unbelievers, and try to live in peace with all men our lives in my estimation seem to become better.
(1 Timothy 2:1-2 prayer and peace)

Considering how many different people in this world believers and even unbelievers should be considered as a chance to love them. None of us are perfect but we can find strength from God.

(Matthew 5:45 love your enemy, Colossians 4:5-6 Proper Conduct towards unbelievers) (Hebrews 4:16, Isaiah 41:10 finding strength, Colossians 1:11 finding strength, Colossians 1:29, finding strength)

We as believers have the holy spirit residing with-in us, we also have Jesus Christ, and the Father in us to being a believer.

(1 Thessalonians 1:5, 1 Corinthians 3:16, Luke 11:13, Ephesians 4:30, Ephesians 1:13-14, Romans 8:14-17)

So we have a lot of support from scriptures, to find help in while living in the world we live in these days. There are some scriptures that could be used like

(1 Timothy 3:1-10 talking about how deacons should be of course I dont believe we have deacons like this anymore, but it reminds us to be patient towards others, not a brawler, not covetous)

With man it's impossible, but with God all things could be made possible if you look at your neighbor as a human being just like yourself. (Matthew 19:26)

Love God, and Love your Neighbour as yourself is the biggest scripture ever used, and what does love look like sometimes we do forget.

(Mark 12:30-31, Matthew 22:36-40, Luke 10:27 Love God, and Love Your Neighbour)

(Galatians 6:1-9 bearing burdens of others/doing well, Galatians 5:14, Titus 1:8 hospitality, 1 Peter 4:8-9 hospitality/love, 1 Timothy 5:10 hospitality, 1 Corinthians 13 love)

Philippians 4:8 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Thanks for looking @Robert8102, and who visit this thread and may the grace, peace, mercy, of God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ abound to you and your family and may you find strength, and peace by going to them.

May seeking and searching for truth found in the Lord Jesus Christ set you free.

Are you saved ? The answer is a question that you need to answer : have you followed Jesus ?

Are you stumbling over the stumbling block? The answer is a question that you need to answer: have you hold His hands?

The question is whether you are trusting in Christ for your salvation, or in yourself, even including your efforts to find Christ and His salvation. If you're chasing emotions or even spiritual experiences you are going to have a bumpy, uncertain roller coaster ride. If you trust the Word when it says that "all who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved", then whatever your strongholds "He has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus". One way is full of fear and doubt and constantly taking your own spiritual temperature, the other is the way of faith and peace.

What if my having "sincerely" given my life to Christ is what I'm depending on, and I'm not really, in my heart, depending on Him?
Indeed, we need to depend on Christ, not on ourselves. And He knows if you are or not. So, I trust Him to know about you and do what He pleases. And this is what I do with myself > I in prayer trust God who knows, to do what He really desires with me. I trust Him to make me submissive to Him in prayer the way He wants me to be submissive.

One thing I've concluded is, being born again is a real, supernatural experience and phenomenon. One can have some psychological/mental/emotional experience, and call it salvation, without really being, supernaturally, born again.
But while a person is getting with Jesus, there can be various experiences included or . . . attacking and confusing. So . . . I would say > just trust the LORD.

Ephesians 1:12 says "we" "first trusted in Christ". If we have come to trust Jesus, this is personal, not a thing to figure out and evaluate theoretically, I would say.

"'Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.'" (Matthew 11:29)

Also, I think of 1 Peter 3:4 >

"rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God." (1 Peter 3:4)

One thing I note, right now, from this verse . . . possibly for you > is how this scripture shows we need to be about pleasing God . . . first - - - pleasing "in the sight of God". So, be careful about getting away from this by worrying and questioning and doubting, because that stuff could be a trick to keep our attention away from pleasing God and submitting to Him in His peace.

Also, this scripture says God is pleased with "a gentle and quiet spirit". So, being gentle and quiet is being like Jesus, I would say, since our Father is pleased with Jesus who is "gentle and lowly in heart", which I see is like to "gentle and quiet".

And I understand how God's love in us makes us the way that is pleasing to Him.

So, I see how God in His love is gentle and quiet . . . never silent. But we miss Him by not being quiet and gentle in sharing with Him in His love. And so, therefore, we can be chaotic and confused in many different ways . . . of being noisy.

So, be still with God. Rest in Jesus. Do not allow yourself to be highjacked from God's peace :)

Hello Robert,

When you start asking whether you are saved, it means that you hear the voice of the enemy — that is — the evil spirit of doubt.
Rebuke the enemy !
pray a short prayer:
I submit myself to God. I resist doubts in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen

Remember that you have heard the word of truth, that is, the gospel. Remember that you heard it by faith. But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); -Romans 10:8
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. -Romans 10:9
For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. -Romans 10:10
For the Scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame." -Romans 10:11

If your thoughts are troubling you you can take them captive. Read 2 cor10:3-5. I have so many thoughts I don’t want that the HS told to shorten it to just saying ‘captive’ and it puts the thought i jail and has no effect on me. Wonderful gift- you don’t get carried away by them. It is that simple. It’s a constant effort but is fruitful. You are saved by your faith but maintenance your doubts like this. Ok? Jesus loves you.
