There are multiple occasions where the Lord Yeshua, either says to his disciples, and the pharisees and scribes, have you not read scriptures, or you have errored in your reading, or have you not heard from the scriptures?

What are your thoughts on these matters?

Matthew 19:4“Haven’t you read the Scriptures?” Jesus replied. “They record that from the beginning ‘God made them male and female.’”

Mark 12:10 Didn’t you ever read this in the Scriptures? ‘The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.

Matthew 22:22-29 Which has Jesus saying this : Jesus replied, “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.

Luke 24: 32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? / 45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here is something that jumped out to day in reading, 1 Thessalonians Chapter 5 verses 8-11
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
Thanks @Lost4words you are right about that. It seems sometimes we just gotta walk in faith, trusting in God for his help and strength by the spirit and rest in hope of deliverance through the Lord Jesus Christ. While trying by the spirit to love, and do good unto others.
Reading the scriptures and understanding them are two different things.
1,000s of denominations each with their own unique interpretation/take on what scripture is saying.
Having been in a lot of different churches in different cities, and in 8 denominations where I went at least 3 times (and 3 denominations including my current where I've been hundreds of times), I've seen that people misinterpret scriptures most often because they don't read through fully, but only have a few isolated verses, without reading the whole chapter or whole book, often not ever it seems. So, instead of reading scripture and then misunderstanding it, the more accurate thing happening most of the time is they didn't read scripture.
That is, they haven't truly listened to scripture (a few isolated verses or a few selected passages isn't truly listening), and therefore they misunderstand.
where we can fall short ... can be any one or combination of these
haven't read the scriptures (no knowledge)
misinterpret the scriptures (not understanding what they mean)
do not adhere to what scripture teaches (understand but do not do what they say)
@Halbhh @eleos1954 , Hello there brother, my teacher has been getting me more into seeking truth and we can find truth in the scriptures, sometimes it is just a single passage you can use. I believe that everything that is said, should be tested, and to see what stands for the truth. Of course some people will have their own biased and subjective truth over what we can find in the scriptures.
The truth here lately, as being pulled into scripture more is how much help we really do get from God our Father the more we seek him, and his son Jesus Christ. How we can ask for help with our flesh and to be helped in the spirit that resides in us, as we live on this earth, and to help us love others by as P
Philippians 4:8 puts it: 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
The more we get into scripture and we are reminded about the awesome promises, and seeking understanding, the more closer we are able to have God in our lives. Not for the sake of being better or more spiritual than other people but just for the betterment of the self and an individual experience with God as you go along and pray, and even ask for help in whatever the scripture is telling you (example Galatians 5 and the flesh in what is capable of), asking God for help and not doubting and trusting that he will help you by the spirit and be able to give you joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, forbearance and just leaning on Him.
God loves everyone, and this was something that came across and not sure how often people use this scripture but it was profound!
2 Corinthians 4:6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Be blessed, and trust in God. May grace, peace, mercy, abound in your life through God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ! Goodnight all.
And whatever you read, read it slowly, carefully, mole it over in your mind chew on it as it were mana given from God. He is awesome, Good, loving, merciful, just of course, and he loved us so much he sent Jesus Christ, to die, but to be risen again! That we may die too, and have a new life in living in Him.
@Saint Steven, that is a good scripture.
Woke up early this morning. Watching a show from my teacher this morning. You know He mentions praying for all people he knows, even people that have attacked and mocked him, and how prayer helps soften our heart towards other people when we give the earthly nature of what ever may be going around us by others, to God in allowing him to take care of matters which are simply out of our hands, and how it softens the heart.
(1 Timothy 2:1-3 prayer and peace, Colossians 1:3-12 thanksgiving and prayer, Romans 12:18 peace, Hebrews 12:14 finding grace and strength)
As believers we have Christ in us. (Romans 8:10-20)
If it is possible for us to just make prayers for all men/women/children/unbelievers, and try to live in peace with all men our lives in my estimation seem to become better.
(1 Timothy 2:1-2 prayer and peace)
Considering how many different people in this world believers and even unbelievers should be considered as a chance to love them. None of us are perfect but we can find strength from God.
(Matthew 5:45 love your enemy, Colossians 4:5-6 Proper Conduct towards unbelievers) (Hebrews 4:16, Isaiah 41:10 finding strength, Colossians 1:11 finding strength, Colossians 1:29, finding strength)
We as believers have the holy spirit residing with-in us, we also have Jesus Christ, and the Father in us to being a believer.
(1 Thessalonians 1:5, 1 Corinthians 3:16, Luke 11:13, Ephesians 4:30, Ephesians 1:13-14, Romans 8:14-17)
So we have a lot of support from scriptures, to find help in while living in the world we live in these days. There are some scriptures that could be used like
(1 Timothy 3:1-10 talking about how deacons should be of course I dont believe we have deacons like this anymore, but it reminds us to be patient towards others, not a brawler, not covetous)
With man it's impossible, but with God all things could be made possible if you look at your neighbor as a human being just like yourself. (Matthew 19:26)
Love God, and Love your Neighbour as yourself is the biggest scripture ever used, and what does love look like sometimes we do forget.
(Mark 12:30-31, Matthew 22:36-40, Luke 10:27 Love God, and Love Your Neighbour)
(Galatians 6:1-9 bearing burdens of others/doing well, Galatians 5:14, Titus 1:8 hospitality, 1 Peter 4:8-9 hospitality/love, 1 Timothy 5:10 hospitality, 1 Corinthians 13 love)
Philippians 4:8 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Thanks for looking to everyone who visit this thread and may the grace, peace, mercy, of God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ abound to you and your family and may you find strength, and peace by going to them.
Hello Agallagher, nice to meet you!
I felt (very many years ago) a strong urge to read more of what Christ said to us. We learn in time, when we listen to the words our Savior spoke to us, that there is a reason we are drawn to hear His words -- His sheep listen to His voice and follow Him. One can indeed pray for more understanding I found out, by trying it! Another key thing, and this one I did not realize for many years, is that the prayer our Lord gave us to pray in Matthew chapter 6 is for us a daily prayer, one which He knew that we would need. When I finally began to pray this prayer on most days I noticed that on the days I prayed this prayer, then things go much better, for walking in the Spirit and keeping His word, and any conflicts tend to vanish or be reduced. It's wonderful to find out that this daily aid is available to us, if we would listen to Him. He said John 10:27 My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. and this is why we will want in time to hear every last word He said in the gospels. Welcome to CF, and glad to have you here.
Reminded me of this.
John 14:26
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
Are you saying that passage applies to everyone and not just Jesus disciples/Apostles ?
Nope.
You have to have the indwelling Spirit for it to teach and guide you.
Thanks for asking.
