Sure, we should have a fund to pay to pay for the damaged storefronts and stolen goods that aren't covered by insurance. The looters should be thrown in jail for their crimes. Are those really the issues?

Trump will come to town pushing the 2016 rhetoric of the black and brown enemy that will threaten your suburban home if he isn't elected. It worked last time. It may very will give Trump a win in Wisconsin again, and also elsewhere.

As evangelicals raise money for the militia child whose hero is Trump, we might consider just how these looters are supposedly threatening the suburbs and our children. We also need to be clear in teaching our children that it is the policeman and the militia man that are the heroes and are to be copied. Is that what we want for our children?

======================
THE INDIVIDUAL POLICEMEN
In the 60's, I lived in a city where we didn't fear our police. They were educated and well trained. It can be done. Kenosha is NOT one of those cities. A black man refused to obey the orders of the police. A policeman feared that he was reaching into his car for a knife, threatening his life. Other policemen were on site. For many police forces, lethal force is the last, not first, option. That is clearly NOT the case in Kenosha.

The response of the experienced policeman was to shoot the man a couple of times to stop him from getting the knife. Is this what Kenosha police are trained to do? The policeman then shot the man again, and again, and again, and again. and AGAIN. Is this the man you want on your police force? Not me.

There is something clearly deficient in the choosing and training of policemen in Kenosha. If this is NOT what the people of Kenosha want, then the police chief should be pushed to resign. I do NOT think that this will happen. I suspect that the majority favor the behavior of their police.
===================
THE POLICE CULTURE
The "us and them" culture of Nixon/Hoover era is clear. The enemy is the black and brown "criminal" (and anyone that looks suspicious). The police are ( and should be) free to do anything they want to put down the enemy. The rules of engagement are clear. If you feel threatened in any way, shoot. And then, shoot again. It is is fine to welcome help from un trained civilians. All they need to do is say that they are protected the storefronts from damage. This goes from children with guns. They are to be welcomed into town to help. The interview with the chief was instructive. He said that he didn't and wouldn't authorize the use of such militia. Of course, he wouldn't criticize his police for welcoming them.

QUESTION
What would the attitude be if the man who killed 2 in Kenosha was black? To be clear, what if a black man came into town to protect the car dealers, waving a long gun? When this black entered, would he have been welcomed by the police? If he killed two people and walkied down the street waving a gun, would the police have simply driven by?

Would Christian groups be taking collections for him?

Maybe some Christians would be taking up collections to help pay for his funeral; probably not. He certainly would have been killed where he stood.
