Now that we know a lot more about the event it is very clear what it was saying.
Businesses are now hiring private security to guard their property and protect it from the rioters and looters. This shows that the local police have not been able to protect their property and businesses now feel they must protect it themselves with guns. This 17 yr old was clearly in over his head, when the situation became dicey he panicked. It is interesting that the people he shot were felons. Not because that in some way exonerates him. I suspect during his trials that will not be admissible unless he can provide solid evidence that it played a part. No, it is interesting because it tells you who was out on the street after the curfew. So although the protesters are peaceful, once the curfew kicks in it seems a much higher percent of felons are on the street looking to loot and/or riot. Unfortunately there has been very little distinction made between the protestors and the rioters. People are counting this event and the ones he shot to be further evidence of a bias against black lives even though he didn't shoot any blacks and it is very likely they were there to riot and loot, and not for BLM.
This is the explosive situation we are in. During a pandemic a lot of people have lost their job. This is probably hitting felons harder than anyone else. They are already the despised cast offs with limited job opportunities and even limited as to where they can live (pedophile). This is a very different group from the earlier BLM protesters. On the other hand with the very tough economic situation for small businesses they cannot afford to be looted and have their businesses burn to the ground, they also are on the ropes and are hiring people with assault rifles to guard their property. Because the protests are directed at the police and each new incident only fans the flames more the police are being much more circumspect in their actions leaving these businesses vulnerable.
3 things are feeding the flames, not one. 1. Incidents of police violence against minorities like the shooting of Jacob Blake. 2. Lost jobs and lost opportunities due to the pandemic. and 3. Businesses trying to protect their business from riots and looters. So the burning of a business one night is going to fuel their outrage the next.
