Many in the church who are wrestling with ministry in a postmodern era view deconstruction as a negative aspect of the postmodern movement. But John Caputo, one of the leading philosophers of religion in America and a leading voice on religion and postmodernism, sees it differently. In this lively and provocative analysis, he argues that in his own way Jesus himself was a deconstructionist and that applying deconstruction to the church can be a positive move toward renewal.

The word you used 'deconstructed', its modern in a sense. Initially i thought on a modern restaurant deconstructing a sandwich and the head chef rings the bells.....the offering appears, its delivered to your table by a waitress in the finest linen, hickory smoke is added, another pang of bells is sounded and joyous applause from the feasters.......then that 'deconstructed' sandwich is set in front of you, a little bit here, another bit there, another bit over there, oh there's another we mouthful over there.......What do i do?, i look around, i look at others.....the head chef tells us what to do, we obey what the head chef says, and we eat obediently.

Could we have received and enjoyed a sandwich in a simple restaurant........YES, YES, YES, no bells, no whistles, no head chef telling us how to eat and drink.

Oh, such a delight it is to look upon Christ with an open heart, a true heart through his word and not by the commandments and conditions of men.

Look by faith and live. God bless

Jesus can't, but Satan will use man making it extremely difficult for someone to receive and accept him as their Lord and Saviour through faith alone.

discovered >

"'Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.'" (Matthew 11:29)

While there is a risk of the work of the likes of Caputo becoming shallow, based as it seems to be on a series of poses (indeed what he thinks of as "church" appears to have been abolished) God is the ultimate RE-constructor.

To not stunt the growth of our fellows and to supplicate with God for their needs and the needs of our country, is to cooperate in His constructing.

I was getting the impression the "emerging church movement" was deceptive because there was no heart for anybody in it: it was based on image and power, manoeuvring and manipulating.

Certainly Jesus' words startle us but not out of trickery.

Let those who want to extract meaning from Deleuze and Derrida (who are different from each other) do so honestly and at the appropriate levels.

Personally I have provisionally given up on Derrida but only because I can't yet figure out what he is saying. In the case of everybody else I keep in mind all truths and knowledge that I know, whenever I'm studing social science, history, sciences etc. Knowledge helps us read out of what we read, more than into it. Knowledge helps us appreciate and evaluate what is being said (even if only to drop it), rather than altering it for our "convenience".

One possibly are deconstructing from how they are able to understand Jesus.

Instead, we need to discover Jesus . . . how He is so more and greater than how we already have become able to understand Him.

how could Jesus be deconstructed?
In our own character, we have our own ability to see Jesus the wrong way. Then in our own character we can deconstruct Him > meaning to see Him to be less and less than who and how He really is.

So we need then, to actively seek our Father for His real correction (Hebrews 12:4-14) . . . curing of our character . . . so we become like Jesus and so we can see how He is, by becoming like Him.

"Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is." (1 John 3:2)

From this, I see how we become able to see how Jesus is, by becoming like Him. And we discover how Jesus is, by loving like Jesus loves. And God's word tells us to do this now >

"And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma." (Ephesians 5:2)

Therefore, we need to deconstruct how we have been doing things, and seeing things, and deconstruct from our ways of giving our attention elsewhere!
