Question, how do people understand the term "Son of God"? Is it literal? Is it an expression? How do people here understand "Son of God"
From the Early Church Fathers who got it from the Apostles
Fully God, fully man.
Okay,.. if that's what you believe I guess... remember I'm not Catholic so I don't believe it.
In my opinion, yes, judge for yourself...see Matthew 12:46-47:Does it say Mary had children other than Jesus?
What?
In my opinion, yes, judge for yourself...see Matthew 12:46-47:
46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.”
...and...
Matthew 13:54-56:
55 “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother’s name Mary, and aren’t his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56 Aren’t all his sisters with us?
What are you talking about?
My earlier post in the thread explained my position.
Jesus was true God and True man...he acquired His humanity through Mary. Jesus as Savior had to take on flesh to fulfill perfectly the LAW for us and save us from what was held against us and our salvation....in this way He reversed the curse...see the first chapters of Romans.I think Mary served as an incubator ... that is God performed a miracle within her to conceive our savior to be born in the form (likeness) of a man. That is ... Jesus wasn't biological to Mary in any way.
Philippians 2
King James Bible
But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Isiah 7:14
Berean Study Bible
Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and she will call Him Immanuel.
and yes Jesus is the begotten son - has the very same nature as the Father.
Colossians 1:15
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
John 14:9
Berean Literal Bible
Jesus says to him, "Am I with you so long a time, and you have not known Me, Philip? The one having seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
Romans 3:23 (KJV)Where? I would like to know.
I quoted ,...and sistersThis has already been addressed in this thread but, "brothers" in this context does not necessarily mean siblings -it also imply "cousins" because there was no equivalent term in Greek.
Early theologians, quoting first hand or second hand eye witness of Jesus' life, recorded that Jesus was the only child of Mary. It was widely believed that "brothers" in these context were children of Joseph from his previous marriage.
Romans 3:23 (KJV)
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
