Never received my Icons

Ordered two icons several weeks back from orthodox monastery icons and waited several weeks . I had paid for them and for shipping to my address. I received a sticker on my mail box that they were at the post office. I contacted the monastery and the office told me to call the post office. I reminded them I paid for shipping to my address. We went back and forth and I eventually contacted the post office. Not easy in a large City. They told me I owed $11:00 for postage special handling.

I contacted the monastery office via email and they didn’t want to pay it. Then after back and forth they agreed then backed out again. Their solution was to have it shipped back to them then they would re-ship. Made zero sense.

A few weeks go by. I message them earlier today and they tell me to call the post office. I had enough and messaged that they had two choices refund me now or I call the States Attorneys General and file a complaint.

They replied with a refund receipt and a message that I didn't need to be so threatening. Really?

I really wanted my icons and didn’t want to play hardball but felt they forced my hand.

Any other suggestions other than orthodox monastery icons.com?

I wish they had a sorry icon here. I am sorry you had so much trouble. It can be frustrating.

When last I checked, Saint Tikhons monastery has an iconographer who accepts commissions at a reasonable price. Call their bookstore.

there is also an icon studio in the works. plus, they sell other folks' icons.

What could have been done to avoid the situation ?

You paid for home delivery but the post office still wouldn't deliver to your residence ?

The monastery could have offered to reimburse me the $11:00. And I would have driven to the post office, paid them and retrieved the icons. Point is I already paid shipping to my residence.

If you had accepted to pay the extra charge, without arguing in the first place, Christ would have made your soul an icon of Himself... you lost a great opportunity.

I understand your sentiment and don’t necessarily disagree. I also believe in honest business dealings. The Monastery could also have set an example by offering to make things right. I mean I did pay for the icons as well as shipping in good faith.

I have had ordered icons from Uncut Mountain and St Isaac's Skete, with good results. St. Isaac's did stop producing icons for a while due to "covid", so my shipment was delayed, but I did receive my icons eventually!

What has never been explained is just why you, eastcoast_bsc, did not contact the post office about the ticket left on your mail box before contacting the supplier ? Could it possibly be that the package was too big for your mailbox and the driver was not prepared to leave it in case it was stolen ?

I was one of the ones to have recommended them, and I've not had any trouble with them in the 2+ years I've dealt with them. While I'm sorry to hear of the trouble you had with them it seems that the Post Office is the difference in our experiences.

Either way my apologies for recommending them since you had trouble.

If the post office was asking for more money, what happened is that it was sent with insufficient postage - it's puzzling that a package with so much postage due would make it out of the originating post office in the first place, but these things happen, I guess.

I did call the PO. They told me that the package was sent special handling which would cost $11.00 more.
My suggested solution to the monastery and they initially agreed was that I would pick it up and pay then they would reimburse my account. They then contacted me back and send they wanted the icons shipped back to them then they would reship them.

This part makes no sense to me.
