While he is certainly doing everything he can to capture the alt left socialist adherents, two thing come to mind.

1. He gave more time to Republicans in an attempt to show he can reach across the aisle than he did the “Squad” folks. AOC was relegated to 60 seconds vs 7 min for Colon Powell. That can’t sit well with folks who want nothing to do with reaching across the aisle.

2. California delegates where almost an even split. That is very telling since CA is the biggest part of the movement.

Thoughts?

One, there is no sizable number of "alt left socialists" in the Democratic party. That being said, I have heard discontent from more progressive folk that he seems to be trying to reach out more to disaffected Republicans then he is the left wing of his own party. So it's a good question how much support he will get from the more progressives. However, in this case we have an incumbent who is against everything those same progressives believe in, and we learned again how important a few votes can be. I don't know that there will be great enthusiasm, but i expect them to come out and vote for Biden.

My adult children are all Bernie supporters--but they recognize the threat to their futures.

As i tell them: if Trump continues to stack the courts, it won't matter if the next president advocates policies as progressive as western Europe's.

Trump's judges will declare every single policy--along with many we all enjoy now--unconstitutional.

By 2024 it will be too late. Without reading a brief federalist society judges will stamp out democracy.

If we get the chance, we can add judges to prevent America becoming like Dickensian London. We will need to have Congress and the presidency...

But remember, the Roberts court gutted the voting rights act...and they will be fighting to suppress your votes.

Just not sure that Joe can capture anything at this point in time.

The debates will be interesting.
Might be a real test for Joe?

Biden, like every other presidential candidate, will engage in the hard work necessary to have a command of the facts when preparing for a debate - the self-proclaimed "stable genius" in the White House will assume that his very presence ensures that he has already won the debate, and that what's the need to further prepare himself to improve on "perfection!"

I hope Bidenville and Harrisburg are better run than Portland and Chicago. If not, there are going to be a whole lot more minorities shot, killed and their businesses burnt to the ground.

So long as Biden follows the orders he's given by that wing of his party, I would think that the answer is "yes, he can keep the Bernie support." Those people could hardly risk the re-election of Trump and having to wait four more years for some Bernie clone to come to the fore.

But that's only guaranteed for a little while since they will certainly want to get Biden out of the White House and replaced by Kamala if he is elected. Having achieved his dream of merely being president at some time in his career, I don't expect Biden to resist that scheme very forcefully.

The demographics of this country are changing.

This is why Republicans dedicate so much money to building walls and suppressing votes and gerrymandering.

Their last stand is stacking the courts so any progressive laws passed will be rubber stamped unconstitutional by ideologues.

Not only is the Democratic party becoming more progressive, the entire country is, and without these barely legal machinations the Republicans would be out of office now.

So yes, they will vote for Biden.

In addition, Florida senior citizens who supported Trump by 12 points in 2016 now favor Biden by 7 points. Showing It's not nice to threaten to bankrupt Social Security.

Every four years the left has to trot out the tried and not true “they want to end your social security” fear mongering.

yet no one ever has.

And I wonder why would they want that?
