David believed he would dwell in the house of the Lord forever. IMO, just like when we die now, they (their souls) would of went to Gods House- not to some compartment in the earth, the city that has foundations that Abraham looked for. They were covered by Jesus' blood, just like all who will ever believe. Jesus is the God of the
living, not the dead or those "asleep". Abraham saw Jesus day and rejoiced. So he is not sleeping.
Paradise is in the garden of God (Rev 2:7) where Jesus and the thief on the cross went, in the Heavenly city of God-where the tree of life is. Jesus is adding on rooms to the Fathers House for us now, and will come again for us one day!
We have a more complete picture of life after death from the NT. All the rest is mans tradition trying to explain what happens when we or they died. Listen to the word, and dig out the truth.
51“Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he
will never see death.” 52The Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets
also; and You say, ‘If anyone keeps My word, he will never taste of death.’
53“Surely You are not greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets died too; whom do You make Yourself out
to be?”
54Jesus answered, “If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God’;
55and you have not come to know Him, but I know Him; and if I say that I do not know Him, I will be a liar like you, but I do know Him and keep His word.
56“Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw
it and was glad.”
57So the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?”
58Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.”
59Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple.
9When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar
the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained;
10and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?”
11And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until
the number of their fellow servants and their brethren
who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed also.
21For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
22But if
I am to live
on in the flesh, this
will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose.
23But I am hard-pressed from both
directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;
24yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake.
A Psalm of David.
1The LORD is my shepherd,
I shall not want.
2He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
3He restores my soul;
He guides me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You have anointed my head with oil;
My cup overflows.
6Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
22But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, 23to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks better than the blood of Abel.
