6. WHAT OLD TESTAMNENT AND NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURES IS PAUL REFERENCING IN COLOSSIANS 2:16?

OK lets now look at the "within scripture context" of COLOSSIANS 2:16 linking the ORIGIN of the OLD AND NEW TESTAMENT scriptures that PAUL is referring to.

COLOSSIANS 2:16 [16] Let no man therefore judge you in MEAT, or in DRINK, or in respect of an HOLYDAY [FEASTIVALS], or of the NEW MOON, or of the SABBATH DAY[S <plural>:

PAUL'S within scriptures CONTEXT and use of COLOSSIANS 2:16-17 is in reference to the OLD TESTAMENT scriptures also liked here…..

EZEKIEL 45:17 [17] And it shall be the prince's part to give BURNT OFFERINGS, and MEAT OFFERINGS, and DRINK OFFERINGS, in the FEASTS, and in the NEW MOONS, and in the SABBATHS, in all solemnities of the house of Israel: he shall prepare the sin offering, and the meat offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make reconciliation for the house of Israel.

NOTE; the LAW in reference here is NOT God's 10 Commandments but the law of sin offereings from the SHADOW laws of the MOSAIC BOOK of the LAW *DEUTERONOMY 31:24-26 from the OLD COVENANT *EXODUS 24:7 (Please look at the attached scriptures above caregully)

CONCLUSION: WHAT OLD TESTAMNENT AND NEW TESTAMENT SCRIPTURES IS PAUL REFERENCING IN COLOSSIANS 2:16? Paul is referring to the shadow laws and ceremonial sabbaths and ordinances in the annual feast days

I respectfully disagree with all that is posted here dear friend but let me explain why by examining the contexts of your claims here in regards to Colossians 2 by looking in detail at the within scripture contexts, the within chapter context and the Greek words used and their meaning. I have never seen the translation you have provided above and never used it or do I care to so it is not relavant to me.

Lets also look at what Paul is quoting from in the Old testament scripture I will be adding the detail in the a number of posts for all to see. If you disagree your welcome to try and prove why you disagree in a friendly discussion.

Ok let's first start by addressing a number of questions asked of you that you ignored in relation to Colossions 2 already. I asked you what sabbaths are being discussed in Colossians 2:16 and I listed many sabbaths in the old covenant that were not God's 4th commandment but ceremonial "shadow" sabbaths of the old covenant fulfilled in Christ and God's plan of salvaiton in the new covenant that can fall on any day of the week.

These included...

Which sabbath is being discussed in Colossians 2:16? Is it...

(1) The sabbaths (not God's 4th commandment) of the Feast of unleavened bread (first and last day) that can fall on any day of the week *LEVITICUS 23:6-8

(2) The sabbath (not God's 4th commandment) on the annual day of Atonement that can fall on any day of the week *LEVITICUS 23:27-32

(3) The sabbath (not God's 4th commandment) on the annual Feast of Trumpets that can fall on any day of the week *LEVITICUS 23:24-25?

(4) The sabbath (not God's 4th commandment) on the Feast of Booths that can fall on any day of the week *LEVITICUS 23:34-36

(5) Feast of first fruits (first and last day - not God's 4th commandment) that can fall on any day of the week *LEVITICUS 23:39

(6) The sabbaths (sabbaton plural - also not God's 4th commandment)) of holy convocations from the annual feast days *LEVITICUS 23:7-8; 21;24; 27; 35-36 that can fall on any days of the week

(7) The sabbath of the land (7 year single cycle - not God's 4th commandment) *LEVITICUS 25:2

(8) The sabbath of Jubilee - culminating of the 7x7 yearly cycles sabbaths (not God's 4th commandment) *LEVITICUS 25:9-54

Note: all of the above "shadow sabbath" are ceremonial annual sabbaths from the Mosiac book of the law and are prophetic in nature pointing to Jesus and Gods plan of salvation in the new covenant. These annual ceremonial sabbaths can fall on any day of the week unlike God's 4th commandment given at creation for all mankind as part of God's finished work before sin and law.

(9) Or God's 4th commandment seventh day weekly Sabbath which is one of the 10 commandments that define sin when broken? *EXODUS 20:8-11 from GENESIS 2:1-3

Scripture please? Do you know what old testament scriptures Paul is quoting from in Colossians 2:16? If so which one?

Now the above question and understanding of all the sabbaths is important to understanding what Colossians 2 is taking about as what you will see in scripture context of Colossians 2 is that Paul is quoting from the old testament scriptures and there are many ceremonial sabbaths in the old covenant that were not a part of God's 10 commandments.

It is the context that determines application and word meaning where ever the word is applied to. Your trying to argue a different cotext and word meaning to the Greek application and context of Colossians 2:14. The Greek word used in Colossians 2:14 tranlated in english as "ordinance" in the KJV is δόγμα; dogma and means a law that is either civil, ceremonial or ecclesiastical. So the within scripture context of Colossians 2:14 as posted earlier is shownin the context..

14, “BLOTTING OUT” < G1813 ἐξαλείφω exaleipho (ex-a-lei'-fō) v. means to rub out, i.e. obliterate, erase> the “HANDWRITING” < G5498 χειρόγραφον cheirographon (chei-ro'-gra-fon) n. means something hand-written (“chirograph”), a manuscript specially, a legal document > of “ORDINANCES” < G1378 δόγμα dogma (d̮og'-ma) n. means ordinance; CIVIL, CEREMONIAL or ECCLESIASTICAL LAWS> that was against us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

V14 Blotting out or erasing the legal MANUSCRIPT or document of ORDINANCES referred to here are those of the CEREMONIAL ORDINANCES from the MOSAIC BOOK of the COVENANT.

The GREEK word for ORDIANACE is DOGMA meaning THE CIVIL, CEREMONIAL and ECCLESIASTICAL ORDINANCES once again only found in the MOSAIC BOOK of the Covenant *EXODUS 24:7

This scripture cannot be referring to the abolishing of the 10 commandments of God’s LAW as God’s 10 Commandments are not ORDINANCES and they are not written in a MANUSCRIPT they are written on two tables of stone (Exodus 31:18). Also the chapter CONTEXT is in reference to the CEREMONIAL ORDINANCES of CIRCUMCISION once again from the MOSAIC BOOK of the OLD COVENANT. These were all SHADOWS ALONG WITH THE ORDINANCES OF v17 pointing to Christ and the plan of SALVATION.

ORDINANCES that were against us is referring to the also referring to the PENALTY of SIN (breaking God’s Commandments which is death) and the ORDINANCES of curses written once again in the MOSAIC BOOK of the Covenant.

The ordinaces and judgements that were against us are also listed in Deuteronomy. There are no chapters in any of the scrolls of the bible these are all inserted by the translators. Your trying to compare apples with oranges and different word meaning from different languages devoid of context. It doesn't work that way.

First, anyone can read Deuteronomy 5:1-2 and then read and discover for themselves that “ordinances” refers to the 10 commandments. So if they believe this chapter in what it says, they will quickly dismiss your false assertion about how the “ordinances” vs. the “10 commandments” are two different things. This is important to understand because Colossians 2:14 says Christ blotted out the ordinances and nailed them to the cross.

Second, Titus 3:9 tells me to avoid strivings about the Law (which are unprofitable and vain). So I am not going to read and reply to book length posts so as to avoid strivings (i.e. to endeavor with earnestness; to labor hard) about the Law (i.e. the Old Covenant Law).

Three, the Scriptures I provided so far speak for themselves.
I don't have to post unclear book length posts to confuse the issue.

Please read post # 43 linked. Your only repeating yourself here without addressing my posts and scriptures provided. Your post here has already been addressed in detail in the post you are quoting from. You did not address anything in it or any of the other posts on Colossians 2 for that matter. Titus 3:9 is not talking about the ten commandments it is talking about controversies in geneologies about the law. It says genealogies, AND.... strivings about the law;

So you are either quoting from a false Modern Translation, or you are not quoting the Bible correctly.

In Titus 3:9 the word law used here is νομικός ; nomikos which means ceremonial laws. So the scripture says to avoid foolish questions in relation to tracing generations [Geneologies] and having contentions about the ceremonial laws that are unprofitable.

Colossians 2:14 (that mentions the ordinances being blotted out) is clearly dealing with the same ordinances mentioned in Deuteronomy 5 that mentions how the 10 commands as those very ordinances.

Seeing that we can find the 9 moral commands (like do not murder, do not steal, etc.) clearly repeated multiple times in the New Testament (or New Covenant) by Jesus and His followers, we can conclude that these commands or ordinances have not been blotted out. This then leaves the Sabbath as being blotted out because Colossians 2:16 says we are not to let others judge us according to sabbath days (Which would naturally include the Saturday Sabbath); Unless of course one is biased in wanting to keep the Saturday Sabbath thereby re-writing Scripture to what they want it to say.

As for Titus 3:9:

Again, the word AND is in there. It says genealogies AND strivings about the Law. Two different things here. If I said dogs and cats, you would not confuse the two I hope because I put the word AND in there. But believe as you wish.

I also do not follow the writings of Ellen G. White, as well. Her prophecies have failed, and we know what the OT says about the punishment for those who do not accurately make prophecy.

Nope, your trying to claim that the different word meanings and contexts are the same when they are not, as already shown in earlier posts in the Greek and Hebrew word meanings as well as the different scripture contexts. There are also no chapter demarcations in any of the books of the bible. These were only addes in by the translators. The book of deuteronomy also contains the judgements/ordinances of God for obedience and disobedience (the blessings and the curses).
Seeing that we can find the 9 moral commands (like do not murder, do not steal, etc.) clearly repeated multiple times in the New Testament (or New Covenant) by Jesus and His followers, we can conclude that these commands or ordinances have not been blotted out. This then leaves the Sabbath as being blotted out because Colossians 2:16 says we are not to let others judge us according to sabbath days (Which would naturally include the Saturday Sabbath); Unless of course one is biased in wanting to keep the Saturday Sabbath thereby re-writing Scripture to what they want it to say.

As for Titus 3:9: Again, the word AND is in there. It says genealogies AND strivings about the Law. Two different things here. If I said dogs and cats, you would not confuse the two I hope because I put the word AND in there. But believe as you wish.

In regards to Titus 3:9 as shown through the Greek meaning of law which is a reference to ceremonial laws and geneologies, we are not talking about ceremonial laws and geneologies (see post # 47) so we will have to agree to disagree here also.

I do not know any that do. We follow Jesus and the bible. I cannot speak in regards to what some individuals may do. Let's get back to scripture though as that is what I believe above all things. I will make a few last posts as I forgot to posts God's 4th commandment in the new testament. I think after these posts though that they will be my last ones here however. I may however leave you with a few more questions to consider though. You do not have to answer them if you do not want to. My hope is that you may consider theses questions carefully and pray about them.

JESUS and the apostles and earlier Church all kept God's 4th commandment Sabbath according to the scriptures in the days of JESUS and after the death of JESUS. All through time to this very present day God's church as always kept God's 4th commandment according to the scriptures. For example...

In the NEW TESTAMENT building on the OLD the scriptures teach that.....

1. Jesus taught that it is lawful to do GOOD on the Sabbath? (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56)

2. Jesus taught that God's Sabbath was made for mankind and not man for the Sabbath rebuking the tradtions of the Jew in regards to their traditions and interpretation around Sabbath keeping? (Mark 2:27-28; Matthew 12:8)

3. Jesus taught that he was the maker and creator of the Sabbath and the God of creation? (Hebrews 1:2; John 1:1-3; 14; Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:16-17; Mark 2:27)

4. 7. Jesus taught that on the two great commandments of LOVE to GOD and MAN hang ALL the LAW and the prophets (Matthew 22:36-40)

Paul warns us that those who do NOT believe and follow GOD do not enter into God's Sabbath rest because of their SINS and UNBELIEF (Hebrews 3-4)

9. Jesus, Paul, James, John and Peter taught there is 10 Commandments including the Sabbath and not 9 commandments and if you break one of God's Commandments you stand guilty before God of breaking all of them (James 2:8-12).

10. Timothy teaches that ALL SCRIPTURE (OLD AND NEW Testament) is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16)

11. The Apostle kept the Sabbath after the death of Jesus (Acts 13:14; 13:27; 13:44; 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; Rev 1:10)

All of the above can also be shown historically through History that God's people have kept God's 4th commandment Sabbath according to the scriptures shown above all through time unbroken to this very present day (Let me know if your want the historical references?).

Accoding to the scriptures, SIN is the transgression or breakin gof God's Commandments (Romans 7:7; James 2:8-12; 1 John 3:4) Those who CONTINUE in UNREPENTANT SIN when they have been given a knowledge of the truth and reject it, will NOT enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEN *Hebrews 10:26-31.

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12).

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has led many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day. Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

In times of ignorance God winks at but now ,<when a KNOWLEDGE of the truth has come> calls all men everywhere to REPENT (FOLLOW) (Acts 17:30-31).

AFTER JESUS' DEATH, HIS DISCIPLES OBSERVED THE SABBATH:

And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid. And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment." (Luke 23:55-56) [ This occured after Jesus' death obviously, which is when the false teachers claim the law was done away. They say the law was "nailed to the cross", but His disciples obviously didn't believe that, as we see here, they "rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment"]

when they (the apostles) departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day." (Acts 13:14)

And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath." (Acts 13:42) [Notice: the Gentiles (non-jews) wanted to hear the word of God on the next Sabbath. Paul DID NOT tell them, "Come back tomorrow, the first day of the week, because that's the day us Christians keep." He had them return the following SABBATH]

And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. (Acts 13:44)

For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day. (Acts 15:21)

And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made. (Acts 16:13)

And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures. (Acts 17:2)

And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks. (Acts 18:4)

For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. (Hebrews 4:4) [See Ephesians 5:1 where it states that we are to be imitators of God.]

There remaineth therefore a SABBATH Rest [See margin: Greek word is "Sabbatismos" which means "Sabbath-keeping"] to the people of God." (Hebrews 4:9)

For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD." (Isaiah 66:22-23) [I realize this is an OT scripture, BUT as you can clearly see here, this is dealing with the NEW heavens and earth (after Christ's return) and it states that ALL shall keep the Sabbath then.

It seems quite preposterous, that God would give the seventh day Sabbath to mankind at creation (Genesis 2:1-3), re-introduce it to Israel BEFORE Sinai - after they lost sight of it in captivity (Exodus 16:4-23; 27-29), codify it at Sinai (Exodus 20:1-17) having all His people observe it, including Christ, then change it to Sunday, just to change it back to Friday sunset - Saturday sunset.

THE SABBATH HAS NEVER CHANGED AND IS STILL TO BE OBSERVED!

HEBREWS 4:9 SO THEN IT REMAINS FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD TO KEEP THE SABBATH

Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery (Matthew 19:18; Mark 10:19; Luke 18:20)

Thou shalt not covet (Romans 13:9)

Sometimes Sabbatarians will set up a strawman argument against Non-Sabbatarians in the fact that just because they reject the Sabbath (a ceremonial law) as being an applicable command in the New Covenant (New Testament), this then equates with Non-Sabbatarians as rejecting the other commands at Mt. Sinai like: Do not murder, do not covet, do not steal, etc. (i.e. the Moral Law). This is not the case.

Unless one is for the belief that they can break God's laws and still be saved, Non-Sabbatarians (who are for following or obeying Jesus as a part of eternal life) do not disregard the 9 out of the 10 commandments (Sabbath excluded). So Sabbatarians will either make speeches or post long points about how we must keep the 9 other commandments when Non-Sabbatarians (who are for living holy as a part of life) are not against such things.

Non-Sabbatarians (who are for holy living as a part of life) agree that the 9 out of the 10 are essential moral laws in addition to other moral laws mentioned in the Bible. A Moral Law is any Law that you instinctively know to do good without having any written law telling you to do it; For the Gentiles by nature kept things within the Law without having the Law (See: Romans 2:14). The Sabbath is a ceremonial law. It is a ceremony or ritual given to Israel and not the church. But we believers (who are for true holy living) who hold to the view that the Sabbath was given to Israel and not the church do not disregard things like: Do not murder, do not covet, do not steal. But sometimes the Sabbatarian will argue how we must keep these commands when we are not in any disagreement in how we must obey them.

You will also notice that any of the references they provide in defense for keeping the Sabbath within the New Testament is not an actual commandment. The New Covenant officially began with Christ's death, and no command after Christ's death was given to believers that say, “Thou shalt keep the Sabbath.” Paul met with Jews on the Sabbath as a part of ministry efforts, but Paul was not commanding the churches to keep the Saturday Sabbath. On the contrary, believers met or gathered on the first day of the week instead. This was no doubt in honor of the Lord ascending to His Father (i.e. to enter into glory).

Gods' 4th commandment is not a "ceremonial law" it is a "moral" law of our duty of love to God. All the 10 commandments are moral laws and our duty of love to God and mankind. God's law is the standard "mark" or what is right and what is wrong, what is sin if disobeyed and righteousness if obeyed from the heart through faith that works by love. Gods 4th commandment is a "memorial" of creation and God as the creator of heaven and earth where he rested after he created all things. God's people follow God and God commanded them to keep the "seventh day" as a holy day of rest in rememberance of God as the creator of heaven and earth and it is a sign that we are His people and follow him because we are now free to walk in His Spirit to love.
