There's a link with a video in my post. If you want, you can probably watch the speech itself on TV tonight.

First of all I don't have cable and second of all another problem I have is that the media is very twisted so it's rather hard to tell what's true and what's not. I'll give the article another look, but here's another thing to keep in mind. Somebody else will have to help me out with the exact scripture,.. but Jesus Himself was for self-defense.

He said something about getting swords whenever you went into battle and something about defending your property. I do believe He said that second part as well somewhere. So if anybody wants to argue with that, take it up with Him not me. Not that I want anybody to argue with Him, but still those were His words,.. I just have trouble remembering exact chapters and verses.

You're thinking of Luk 22:36, though it doesn't say as much as you're remembering. The Word commentary says about this:

"The sword is thought of as part of the equipment required for the self-sufficiency of any traveller in the Roman world. Nothing more than protection of one’s person is in view."

That seems right. However it's possible that he's speaking non-literally. In vs 38 he gives the impression that the disciples misunderstood him, and in 49-51 he rejects the disciples' attempt to defend him, healing the one who they wounded.

I think Christians have a right to self-defense, but Jesus doesn't really say that. At best it's implied by 22:36, if he meant it literally.

So then what do you think it means?

Because believe it or not, many Christians agree with liberal agendas and think they align with what Jesus would do. These do NOT include LGBT or abortion rights.

Such as?

Here's another quick point although a bit off topic,.. if Hillary is so innocent,.. then why the heck have we not heard a thing out of her mouth since President Trump has been elected? Surely even the Christian Democrats have to admit that she hasn't been in the news at all since then. At least,.. I haven't seen anything. She must be living life on the DL for a reason. She wants to keep her butt out of prison that's what. Sorry,.. just had to get that off my chest.

I see the Republican Party under Trump going to the far right and accusing the Democrats of going to the far left. Did this trend start recently or did it start with GW Bush or even earlier.

I think this is an important point.

Started with Obama who had hatred for any of the right, he forced our hand. It was Obama who split the country along lines of hatred.

She was a fairly unpopular candidate. It's not likely that many people are looking for her support.

I don't know. That's why I gave both possibilities. If it were just Luke 22:36 alone, I'd say Jesus wasn't opposed to self-defense. He didn't explicitly advocate it, probably because it wasn't controversial during that time period. But in the context of vs 38 and 51, not to mention "turn the other cheek" I think there's a reasonable chance that he was being ironic.

Yes true,.. but turning the other cheek also doesn't mean allow yourself to be beat up by somebody. I really don't think that Jesus would want us to put ourselves in harm's way so that would include self-defense.

That's totally different from killing somebody for no reason. Jesus probably isn't against the military either. At least I hope not.
He didn't seem to have a problem with the Centurion. That's about the only evidence I can think of, and it's not very strong.

Please don't take this the wrong way,.. I really don't want to start a fight,.. but how is there such things as Christian Democrats and or Liberals? (This might sound stupid but not sure if that's the same thing. XD)

Neither party can accommodate a true Christian without some compromise.

So you think the video in the linked article I provided was faked? Supposing it was not? Suppose that Trump's words were reported accurately? If they were, would you agree with his statement? I'm not going to repost the quote or link direct to the video because what he said was in direct violation of CF rules.

I'm watching the video right now and he's talking about Biden being against all those things for the love of Pete!

No, I’m not a veteran. I’m neither strongly opposed to guns nor fanatically in favor of gun rights.
