My city has a 1% vacancy rate. In my apartment community we have NO vacancies. There is a housing shortage and landlords who have decent properties at market rates have no trouble filling their units. But I live in a liberal state which will likely continue the moratoriums on evictions for non-payment of rent. Unfortunately, some landlords have misinterpreted the ruling. They can still evict for lease violations of which there are many. So many tenants are using the moratoriums to violate lease agreements knowing that the landlords are afraid to evict them. I live in a non-smoking community and yet people are still smoking on the property. They also violate noise ordinances, etc. I think it would be great to get rid of those folks and replace them with residents who want to follow the rules.

That's unfortunate. I live in a non-smoking community as well.

Our downstairs neighbors were smoking quite a bit, the landlord just threw them out last month.

What should the new Federal supplement be? The 70% income (R) or Keep the $600 and add extra food stamps and money for teachers and bailouts for worst hit states? what (D) leadership brings to the table?
I really don't know. The problem with the 70% cut off is that while it is higher then the cutoff already existing in even the most generous state, for a lot of people who were already living paycheck to paycheck, 70& won't pay the bills. But the extra $600 week can be more then some people were already making, especially combined with the unemployment already existing. Maybe put it as up to 100% of previous income up to a certain income level?
