MECH - since you don't believe in God, there is no point in discussing Biblical revelation...

There is no point because it is irrelavent in light of the evidence presented that clearly falsifies young earth/flood geology whether you like it or not.

What you interpret the Bible to say is meaningless if what you claim it says does not jive with reality.

Either you can address the evidence that falsifies your position, or I will consider your continual dodging of the points as a concession of defeat in the debate. Your model is not realistic nor feasible. Case closed.

Frum;

So from man's perspective the sun moves around the earth. We still talk that way - the sun "setting"; the sun "rising". Sounds like the sun is moving through the sky to me!

And that is why the people who wrote the Bible thought the earth was fixed and the sun moved.

It is why Cardinal Bellarmine wrote the following regarding the heretical claims of Galileo
http://www.nd.edu/~dharley/HistIdeas/Bellarmine.html

Second. I say that, as you know, the Council [of Trent] prohibits expounding the Scriptures contrary to the common agreement of the holy Fathers. And if Your Reverence would read not only the Fathers but also the commentaries of modern writers on Genesis, Psalms, Ecclesiastes and Josue, you would find that all agree in explaining literally (ad litteram) that the sun is in the heavens and moves swiftly around the earth, and that the earth is far from the heavens and stands immobile in the center of the universe. Now consider whether in all prudence the Church could encourage giving to Scripture a sense contrary to the holy Fathers and all the Latin and Greek commentators. Nor may it be answered that this is not a matter of faith, for if it is not a matter of faith from the point of view of the subject matter, it is on the part of the ones who have spoken. It would be just as heretical to deny that Abraham had two sons and Jacob twelve, as it would be to deny the virgin birth of Christ, for both are declared by the Holy Ghost through the mouths of the prophets and apostles.

JOB:
38:1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
38:2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
38:3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
38:4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
38:5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?
38:6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

Too bad the "good" Cardinal did not read his Bible, or else he would have seen that God said the Earth was round, which contradicts what the "Holy Mother Church" taught at that time.

Where does the Bible say the earth is round? A circle is flat don't ya know. The ancient Greeks, however, knew the world was round and calculated the circumfrence. Some early Biblical scholars, such as Cosmas Indicopleustes, did think the Bible required a flat earth but I think most educated Europeans knew the earth was a sphere by the time of Galileo.

Now can we get back to discussing the original location of the Garden of Eden?

Haven't you read Genesis 2? It was in the Middle East. Near the Euphrates river and not too far from Ethiopia and the land that the Hebrews knew as Assyria. At least that's what my King James version says.

I think the average person in this world knows that there is a sun rise and a sun set and that you can get a pretty good idea of what time of day it is, by where the sun is.

Beyond that, they don't pay much attention to it. Untell they take a science class in school. Then whatever they get taught is what they learn. Usually it's science that determines what gets tought in the science class.

I was on a gardening forum, and started to talk a little bit about science, and they were not interested. It took some of the fun out of things, they would rather think of it as being sort of mystical.

Adam was created in Eden, but not in the Garden itself. (Genesis 2:7-8).

John; do you agree on this point?

Yes, the soil in Eden is a very distinct red color(rudy). Bruce Feiler Walking the Bible: A Journey by Land Through the Five Books of Moses said that when he first saw the red dirt, he felt like rolling in it. He felt a strong almost magnetic pull to the dirt, because that was the dirt he felt man had been made from.

The Bible talks about how after God made Adam, He put him into the Garden God had made in Eden. When Adam was thrown out of the Garden, he still lived in Eden. Cain of course was thrown all the way out of Eden. He was afraid for his life & God put a mark on him, so that no one would kill Cain. Of course my question for that is: Just who was it that Cain was afraid was going to kill him? Sense Adam, Eve & Cain were the only three people alive according to some people.
