I saw a verse that said this was a sin, so I want to avoid commiting it. The thing is, I don't really understand what sensuality is. Some think it's sexual pleasure, or any pleasure that pleases the body in some way, or even pleasure from sin.

I also like watching certain ASMR videos, such as slime, soap cutting, and things like that, and it is satisfying to watch things like that. Is that sensuality?

Also, how do I avoid living for the flesh, as well as avoiding the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life?

I have been wondering what sensuality is, and it sounds like it pertains to the senses. Is it a sin to enjoy things that please our senses?

I cannot give you a direct answer to your question. It might be helpful if you tell us the biblical context for the type of "sensuality" that is considered sinful. Just being physically pleasurable surely cannot be a sin.

Let me suggest a positive step that you might take. If you make it a point to be kind to others, you are certainly going to give a good Christian witness. If you make an effort to care for even those people who are unpleasant to you, you can be sure that you are on a good path.

"Sensuality" strictly speaking is appeal to the senses. Fruit for instance, is sensual. It looks and smells and tastes pleasant. The sin of sensuality is when the draw and enjoyment of sensual things gets blown out of proportion. That's when the sensual pleasure trumps all else to a point that it becomes an idol. For example, take someone who likes fruit so much that they become a glutton by gorging themselves on it.

Another category of sensuality is sexual lust. I'm reminded of C.S. Lewis's take on it in Mere Christianity - he talks about how weird it would be if in a well-fed country, people would go to clubs and pay money to see the top slowly lifted off of a platter of ham. But that's more or less what people do with sex, going to strip clubs in the UK at the time he wrote it apparently wasn't seen as that level of weird. They on a cultural level over-indulged in sex then, as we do now.

Right, I get it now. I don't want to talk too much about sexual sensuality as I don't want this thread deleted.

I would say to think of sensuality as an addiction. Several of those terms used in those lists of sins are related, such as concupiscence, inordinate affections, lewdness, gluttony, gossip, and such things - all are essentially addictions to pleasure when practiced. Sensuality could be an addiction to flirting, for example, which could be detrimental to relationships, and certainly a hindrance to godly friendships. Addiction to inappropriate content would certainly be sensuality, and related to lewdness.

Whatever our addiction or strong temptation, we should be asking the Lord to deliver us from it and help us to be overcomers by faith in Him.

Very simply one doesn't, what one does it enjoy the pleasures of life, sunlight glinting through tree leaves, it's warmth on one's skin, the coolness of a breaze on a hot day, the delight of slowly eating chocolate, or savouring the tastes and textures of a great meal, watching a girl walk down the street.
The challenge of word play with a friend.

These are all sensual pleasures that we can enjoy.

Yyes over endulgence leads to sin, but pleasure units self is not sinful.

Moderation even when doing things that aren't sinful is importance because when you over indulge in anything on earth it becomes idolatry, greed, addiction etc nothing should be placed above Jesus Christ in our lives.

That is the substance of the issue here, I agree.

Prayer, fasting, and donating to charity are ways to help over come sensuality and many other vices

because you are a new Christian and young I would recommend talking to an older family member or pastor about how to progress in these ways as new Christians will be tempted to over do these things and then it becomes a source of spiritual pride, something that is even deadlier then sensuality

Dear sister,

It is good that you want to avoid committing sin.

Apostle Paul have advised us :

Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. -Romans 6:13

The most important is not to understand sensuality but rather have you GROWN YOUR LOVE toward the Lord Jesus Christ who has given His life and love for you !

When you have come to know His steadfast love and faithfulness DAILY, you will not do what displease Him because you love Him.

Our Lord Jesus is wonderful in counsel and excellent in wisdom ; He can give you counsel in your heart. As David, the son of Jeese, King of Israel have testified :

I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. -Psalms 16:7

To avoid the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is TO FIND THE FEAR OF THE LORD.

The proverbs saying:

By steadfast love and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by THE FEAR OF THE LORD one TURNS AWAY FROM evil. -Proverbs 16:6

Yes, all of us need THIS FEAR OF THE LORD to TURN AWAY FROM the lust of flesh, lust of eyes, and the pride of life !

Remember the counsel that have been by the psalmist:

How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to your word. -Psalms 119:9

You need to keep your way pure for your Lord Jesus and Heavenly Bridegroom by keeping your way according to His word !

Let us do what the Lord have said because we love Him.

Remember that we all need the Lord’s strength to do all the things that He has called us to do !

Then we shall bear fruit of righteousness and love that the Heavenly Father delights.
