I was Saved back then, and the charismatic church was absolutely dominated by an escapist pre-trib rapture mentality. The world didn't matter because we were all taking a magic carpet ride soon.

We're more mature now. The attitude is more out of Jeremiah:

Back in December 2012 the world should have ended, but people took the unwise decision to keep going. No wonder the world is crumbling, it's 8 years past its expiration date.

If you boo hoo about where you are now, age and year wise, it's gonna be far worse in the future. What I mean is, enjoy life in the NOW. No guarantee of tomorrow.

He is with us in it, but is not the author of it.

God doesn't sent that sickness and pain. It is the devil that are making accidents happen. Good permit it, because sin must keep going His way till Jesus returns. My friend, I asking God all the times to sent me where they kill Christians. I am still waiting and I understand now why He doesn't sent me. Otherwise you are not reading what I want to do. Became a REAL Christian and listen to your brothers and sisters here. Don't you that are millions of Christians are praying for you every second? Read John 3:16.

Taking a part here and there from the scriptures and makes your own story is not good in the eyes of the Lord. When God said "evil" it doesn't mean the devil.
The day that sin has entered this world, human eyes has opened and they know what is good evil and righteous. Read the book of Job, did God has done evil on Job? If you are going to steal, is it that God sent you to steal? I you don't worship God, is it God doing evil to sent you in hell? If God says do this and you don't, is God doing evil by punished you? God said keep His 10 Commandments, are God doing evil because you have break the 4th commandment? So if it is not, then do what God told you do.

We've had world wars, civil wars, plagues, earthquakes for centuries, with some people saying "these are end times". He still hasn't returned.

I get that you are genuinely worried that Jesus will return in the next couple of years, before you've had a family/travelled/got an awesome job or whatever.
But:
a) the people saying that the end is near don't know. Jesus says in Revelation "I am coming soon"; that was 2000 years ago. Everyone who has predicted the day of his return has so far been wrong.
b) it seems that if Jesus returned you'd be more upset about a possible unfulfilled life on earth than the joy of seeing, and being with, the One who made us. Personally I think we would all forget our earthly lives in an instant if we saw him. As the song says "and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of his glory and grace."
c) We are told to live for the day and not worry about tomorrow; are you missing out on things today because you are worried that it might not last? You might fall under a bus tomorrow; nothing is guaranteed.
