I've always liked the opener that Missionary Elisabeth Elliot used for her radio broadcasts, the older ones anyway. The show is called, Gateway to Joy. She used two verses, Jer 31:3 and Deut 33:27, to create it. They are both very comforting truths to consider.

Those of us who are (or who will be) God's children by adoption .. Ephesians 1:4-6, have ~always~ been loved by Him. There was, in fact, never a time in eternity past when He did not love and care for us all, nor will there ever be such a time, now, or forevermore
As Pastor Charles Spurgeon also said, "everlasting love shall be the pillow for my head this night".

Jesus saw those who were grieving over Lazarus and He himself was deeply moved and brought to tears.
There are many passages in the Bible showing how the Lord comforts his people, however these passages in particular show how He is especially moved when we are in pain, sorrow or distress.
When we are crying and suffering, our compassionate Lord longs to hold, console and comfort us.
