What happen if you always give too much in those donation. I mean literally giving like nothing will left to you.

Especially in the church, lots of people asking for help in finances. Not all people can help by a church.

How can we respond on this? Helping too much, like literally yes. Like nothing will be left to you, affecting needs of your family.

I don't think the Lord expects us to give ... putting family aside. The family unit is important to Him ... there are needs and wants. If the needs are met ... then the wants can be forgone and go to charity of your choosing.

Parents are responsible for the welfare of their children and children are to honor their parents (helping them if needed as well)

Whenever we give .... we are to do so with a happy heart and not expect anything in return.

1st Kings 17:13
English Standard Version
And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said. But first make me a little cake of it and bring it to me, and afterward make something for yourself and your son.

God Bless.

There is a song called You Can't Beat God Giving.God wants us to give cheerfully, generously. He blesses that. The Word of God says
Luke 6:37-39 King James Version (KJV)
37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

Hello @Aldrin25, here are a couple of passages that came to mind about NT giving when I read your OP, so I thought I'd post them.

Mark 12
41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.
42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny.
43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.
44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everythingall she had to live on.”

2 Corinthians 9
6 He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
7 Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

God bless you!

When I was young I was homeless and sending money from jobs I did to charity. I realized the charity workers were richer than I. The poor people they helped had homes. I stopped giving so much and am no longer poor.

Can one ever give enough?

Some missionaries I supported were not very good. One was being sought on child abuse charges. He committed suicide. I stopped sending money to them. It is better to buy or find free study materials learn the Gospel message and teach it to others than to pay incompetent people to teach it.

I recall reading a New Testament passage advising people to give gifts to the poor. He did not mean give your gifts of charity to the rich.

Verse 7 says not grudgingly orr under compulsion. I think it is wise to note that.

Hello Handmaid, I agree. I like the bit about "cheerful giving" too :) It seems to me that in both cases, our giving is being used by God to help sanctify us, as well to help us continue to grow in our relationship with Him :oldthumbsup:

God certainly doesn't need our $$. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills. Rather, I believe that giving is meant as a blessing .. to us (both to the receiver, BUT particularly, to the giver).

God bless you sister!

p.s. - the Lord also told us this.

Luke 12
33 “Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves purses which do not wear out,
an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near, nor moth destroys.
34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

I remember as a baby Christian (having had no Church upbringing) I was down at Venice Beach, Ca. being panhandled. I ended up giving all I had (thinking I was obeying the Gospel's injunction to give)...until I had nothing and had to spend that night at the Mission in Venice.

Maybe you should fix an amount to give for charity. Give 10% of your income or something like that.

Give what you can. If your kids are going hungry, give less so you can feed them.

The bible tells us we should provide for the needs of our family.

1Ti 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

This verse was written in the context of taking about wisely administering help to those in need. God does not want us to be put in place of need by excessive giving.

The bible says regarding giving:

2Co 8:12-14 For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according as a man hath, not according as he hath not. For I say not this that others may be eased and ye distressed; but by equality: your abundance being a supply at this present time for their want, that their abundance also may become a supply for your want; that there may be equality:

Basically it says, a gift is acceptable, based upon what we have, we are not expected to give of what we don't have. There should be equality in giving, the rich should give to the poor, so everyone has equally.

So no you should not give and go without things for your family. Give in proportion to what you have. If you have a little, give out of that little a small amount. If you have a lot, give generously out of that lot.

There are many ways of giving, not always with money, after all not everybody can give vasts amounts of cash and in a lot of cases these days small amounts. But when it comes to money have a budget, put aside what you truly can afford, not what others expect. God does not want you to go without, he wants you to have a life too. However, if the church puts their demands before your well being, then you have to decide is this church is for praising God or is it just to keep someone in luxury and living off yours and many others misery. Ask yourself to where the cash is going in terms of ministry - to maintain the building? Missionary work at home or abroad?

You can serve God by doing working voluntary for a charity, youth group, donate a small amount to a charity (by this I mean within your means, remember budget, you have live before you can give!), the list is endless, and don't forget PRAYER and ask Him to guide you - God Bless.
