Our daily reading tonight included Ps 119:32.

32 "I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart..."

This verse expresses an important truth.

We have many on CF 'Pushing' the commandments as if they were central to salvation.

Can I suggest this was never the case - His aim was not primarily that we should obey a set of rules, but to have a loving heart.

In fact without a right heart - we cannot obey the commandments.

So the central matter in our salvation is our heart.

"Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me..." Ps 51:10

Salvation is a gift - when we receive it, He changes our heart.

Nothing else matters - make this your one aim - to have a renewed heart - then you will walk in His ways and not stray.

Can I suggest this was never the case - His aim was not primarily that we should obey a set of rules, but to have a loving heart.

If we have a loving heart we will obey His commandments .... out of love for Him and for no other reasons. This is the work of the Holy Spirit in us .... conforming us into His image.

Hebrews 10:16
Berean Study Bible
“This is the covenant I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord. I will put My laws in their hearts and inscribe them on their minds.”

They are not a set of "rules" .... they are laws of love.

John 14:21
Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him."

So if we promote, and live, the Love of Jesus, our culture will change but in the process there will be a cost.

Surely the world needs to see how we love each other to be drawn to Him.

Can we return to this 'first love' ?? What will it mean and how will we do it???

I think I mostly agree. Those pushing the commandments seem largely enthralled by some kind of Hebrew roots movement or other back ground like SDA etc. and they seem to think that the only legitmate Christianity or Faith is some kind of primitive Hebrew roots one.

I do think some of the content of the OT, can matter as far as providing some kind of objective standard. Especially when people can rationalize all kind of things with "grace". I'm talking about rationalizing things that most mainstream Christians would recognize as sin, problematic etc.

What do you think was His point?
The 10 Commandments were given to Israel BEFORE the Law of Moses.

The 10 Commandments ARE the same spirit that Jesus expounded upon in His "New" Commandment, which was the same as the "OLD" Commandments; TO LOVE.

IF you LOVE someone, you would not kill them.

If you LOVE someone you would not steal from them.

If you LOVE someone you would not bear false witness against them.

GOD IS LOVE. The "LAW" in the coming eternal KINGDOM where LOVE RULES, is to LOVE.

That is the "Perfect Will of God"; TO LOVE

When you talk about the heart, I am reminded of this scripture.

“But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭15:18-20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Of course no one is perfect, but when we listen to what the Lord Jesus Christ has said. It can cut us deep into our soul. For the word of God is like that of a two-edged sword.

You should probably be reminded of other Scripture...

Matthew 6:20-21, "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Deuteronomy 6:5-6, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts."

Deuteronomy 10:12, "And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul..."

Deuteronomy 11:18, "Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.

Deuteronomy 15:10, "Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the Lord your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to."

Deuteronomy 26:16, "The Lord your God commands you this day to follow these decrees and laws; carefully observe them with all your heart and with all your soul.

Deuteronomy 30:6, "The Lord your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live."

Deuteronomy 30:14, "No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it."

Joshua 22:5, "But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

1 Samuel 16:7, "But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

1 Kings 11:37, "However, as for you, I will take you, and you will rule over all that your heart desires; you will be king over Israel."

I would hope that we both embrace that nothing is created independent of God. And it is not that we should have to assume such a thing, because Scripture is clear on that point.

My comment eludes to a great deception that has been perpetrated upon those that seek to call themselves children of their Creator. There is great confusion regarding

-the 10 Commandments that were written with the finger of God, which Christ Himself and his disciples AFTER HIS DEATH instructed were to be kept to gain eternal life, and

-THE LAW OF MOSES(mosaic law), which exposed transgression and called all to stand guilty before God.

So we have two distinct "laws" if you will; The TEN COMMANDMENTS and the completely separate LAW of Moses. But what most do not realize is the bigger picture regarding the Law of Moses. Had any human been able to not transgress that Law and attain self righteousness, there would have been no need for a Savior. THAT LAW was a demonstration to the Universe that man, NO MAN, was able to attain self righteousness, and therefore a Savior WAS REQUIRED FOR MANKIND.

According to New Testament Scripture, The Law that exposed transgression and called for the death of those that broke just one of those laws contained within it was nailed to the cross. THE LAW of MOSES was nailed to the cross. Where there was no law that called for death, no death sentence was required.

But the kingdom of Daniel's "Little Horn" has twisted the truth and maintains that both the 10 Commandments and the Law of Moses are the same and both were nailed to the cross. And this is done that the whole world would embrace his strong delusion, that Scripture unequivocally states costs each one that falls into this snare their eternal life.

Now, who would you think would have those that seek their Creator and enter into his "House of God", would cause ALL of them that enter his house to do the very thing that Scripture emphatically states will surely cause each and every one them to be put to death?

This is not conjecture, this is fact! And in fact, while the world waits for this coming fourth Beast of Daniel, it(the 4th Kingdom) has existed in many different forms for 2300 years now.

Information is the key to wisdom. Most reject anything that conflicts with what they want the truth to be. It is easier to twist the truth to conform to our instruction and understanding, than to twist our understanding to conform to the truth.

I cannot find the error in this. maybe you can.

Ah, secret knowledge! It's always of interest to me that some claim to have some understanding of Scripture that has somehow eluded everybody else. Of course, it's always fallacious and based on a twisting of Scripture. Sorry, but I can't accept your secret knowledge.

Scripture is not secret, just rejected without consideration.

Kind of like when everyone thought the world was flat.
