The National Association of Police Organizations endorsed President Trump’s reelection Wednesday, citing his “steadfast and very public support” for law enforcement.

In a brief letter to Mr. Trump, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Times, NAPO President Michael McHale said the president’s support was critical in the wake of the attacks on law enforcement following the death of George Floyd.

The president’s outspoken public praise of law enforcement appreciated “during this time of unfair and inaccurate opprobrium being directed at our members by so many,” said Mr. McHale.

The group, which represents more than 1,000 police unions and 241,000 sworn officers, did not endorse a candidate in the 2016 presidential election. It endorsed the Obama-Biden ticket in 2008 and 2012.

The NAPO endorsement revealed the depth of the cracks in Mr. Biden’s police support since he sided with racial justice protesters and fellow Democrats who have been hammering police departments with accusations of racism and brutality.

Not surprised. If I were Democrat, I would either sit this election out or vote for Trump, solely on the basis "Defund the Police" is so insane and dangerous, especially for women.
Why is it more dangerous for women?

Because women have the disadvantage physically. Remove guns and police - liberal party seems against both - and it's the women you're putting in the real danger.

Democratic Party Looses key endorsement

Given Trump's current standings in the polls, 40+ million unemployed, 3.5 million testing positive, over 75,000 new cases of COVID-19 daily and 135,000 deaths attributed to the Pandemic, why would any organization want their name associated with this President?

regarding the reasoning for the endorsement in the op

They would rather be associated with the President, most likely because he isn’t calling for their defunding and/or elimination. He is and has been a strong supporter of police and military.

Something the left and Mr Biden currently is not.

With the advent and pervasive use of video phones, every police officer in America should now automatically assume that every arrest made in public could be videotaped - meaning that their use of force will have to withstand the challenges posed by a video record!

The unnecessary death of George Floyd marked a "watershed" moment in American history that this President may choose to ignore but the corporate sponsors of the Washington Redskins were quick to recognize!

Except Biden isn't calling for the elimination of the police either...

The problem with video is that it doesn't tell the whole story. Let's look at George Floyd as an example. He told the cops "I can't breathe" before they were on his neck which would seem to indicate that the knee on the neck wasn't his cause of death. He had fentanyl in his system, apparently 3x what is considered safe. Fentanyl is known to cause heart attacks, Prince is a famous example of someone who died of a fentanyl induced heart attack. What if Floyd was dying anyway and the arrest which was videoed had nothing to do with his death?

My point here is that video doesn't tell us the whole story and it is foolish to draw conclusions based on video alone. The mob overreaction to Floyd's death should serve as a reminder to wait for all the facts before reaching a conclusion.

Okay. "Elimination" is the word that the deniers are hanging their hat on. Would redirecting, replacing, defunding, or some other synonym be better? Or is "calling for" not acceptable but "advocating" would be?

Joe Biden Expresses Support for Redirecting Police Funds to Other Programs

"Redirect some of the funding to other programs" is what he said (or rather it's what the questioner said, and Biden agreed.) In my mind that is a far cry from "defund and/or eliminate" the police.

I don't know that I agree with the notion to redirect some of the funding to other programs, but yes we should be clear about what people say and not distort or exaggerate what was said. The latter has become far too common in American politics.

George Floyd's autopsy determined the cause of death was "cardiopulmonary arrest" caused by 'mechanical asphyxi" - but Trump supporters will investigate for this coroner's political party affiliation to determine if he/she is a registered Democrat, which would automatically result in demands for dismissal from the case for bias!

What does Trump have to do with this. I didn't vote for Trump in 2016 and have no plans to vote for him in November.

This President has stated repeatedly that he's being treated unfairly and the victim of bias when it involves any Democrat in a position of authority - so why wouldn't we expect his supporters to revert to the same "attack lines?"

Everything has to do with Trump. As long as it is bad news.
