A statue of the Virgin Mary was set ablaze outside a Boston church Saturday night, said police who are investigating the arson incident.

Officers at 10 p.m. responded to a call for a fire in the area of 284 Bowdoin St. in Dorchester.

On arrival at St.Peter’s Parish, officers saw that a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary had been set on fire

I know St. Peter’s well. Great bunch of guys growing up came out of that Parish. We were St. Ambrose and played against them in sports. There is no respect anymore. When I grew up there whoever did it would have been found and given a beating.

We know that there will be an accounting for this desecration. It will NOT go unnoticed by God. I wonder if someone got it on camera?

As I am Catholic I am most sensitive to destruction directed our way. So obviously, I'm biased. But off-hand, I can't say I remember anybody going after Protestant property. A Google search hasn't turned up much relevant stuff.

That statue is probably ceramic of one iteration or another. Or maybe metal. Probably can be restored with a good paint job.

They'll get around to protestants when they go after physical people, which will be coming along in due time.. There aren't much in the way of protestant statues anyway.

I think we're seeing the beginning of the warfare against the Church in general.
But somehow they always start with the Catholic Churches, where available.

We Irish established and built those church’s. These church’s are old and made from the best materials. The point is not that we can restore the statute by why are such acts occurring.

Police Respond to Clash between Black Lives Matter Protesters, Churchgoers in New York Not going after property but apparently BLM has been demonstrating outside this church for a couple of weeks. It may have been something the Pastor said as the sermons are posted online but it's not clear. According to the article they didn't like something he said.

Alright, so there's one. With respect, I do consider hassling the parishioners a step or three lower down the ladder than arson but that's still pretty informative. Thanks, never saw that one. And good on those baptists for not allowing themselves to get drawn into some kind of conflict.

No Protestant Churches tend not to have statues, etc, although our Lutheran Church has stained glass windows depicting Jesus and the disciples, Holy Family, etc but we are an older church building.

The thugs are getting a kick out of going after any statues. Protestants seldom have statues. If we did, they'd be destroyed or defaced by those thugs. For years, thieves have been stealing Jesus from outdoor nativity scenes which Protestant churches and Protestant homeowners have.

We need a lot more good police!

Yeah it's hard to tell what they were upset about something the Pastor said it looks like.

Yeah we always have a big Nativity scene outside our church every year. We had one in our town square but a few years ago some separation of Church and State organization drove through town or something and sued to have it taken down. (It was on City Property, made of lights went up every year.) This was about 12 years ago.

Protestant churches get vandalised and broken into. When I was Presbyterian we had a couple of break-ins with smashed windows, and my wife's Baptist Church has also been targeted.

Quite recently the Catholic Church I attend also had windows smashed, along with the associated school, and presbytery.

It goes across the board. Here's an incident from the "other side", and it's not the first time apparently.
