Richard Rose: Ohio Man Dies of COVID-19 after Anti-Mask Post | Heavy.com

Richard Rose passed away on July 4 from complications of COVID-19, just a few days after he tested positive for the coronavirus. Now posts are going viral online that show him saying he didn’t believe in wearing masks back in April. Heavy has confirmed that those posts are indeed authentic. In mid-June, he posted about attending a crowded outdoor public pool, and later said that he thought he may have caught coronavirus there. Many people who knew and loved Rose have posted tributes to him, including a paranormal group where he was well known, and funds are being collected for his funeral costs.
It's really sad to see this sort of thing happen. COVID-19 is real. There are probably a lot of deaths that could be prevented if only more people could learn to take it seriously.

This also isn't the first case of someone downplaying the virus and then contracting and perishing from it.

So what's the takeaway from this OP? You believe in God, or karma, or what?

That by downplaying this pandemic and taking unnecessary risks, one increases the probability of personal consequences from it.

Probably believes that wearing masks is not "hype" and can save lives----which they do.

I thought the point was fairly clear:

So you know that he contracted it by not wearing a mask, and no other way?

Do you need how probability works explained to you?

(Btw, I suggest reading the quote in the OP because it explains how this individual reportedly contracted COVID-19. If you are fixating on the mask aspect, you're missing the bigger point.)

No. Probability doesn't indicate what actually happened.

You're the one making masks the topic. It's even in the thread title.

Read the full OP (it's only a few paragraphs). Your posts are sounding like you didn't read past the thread title.

I read the OP and the article. What am I missing? Stay away from S&M bars?

Okay, I guess we do have to explain how this works.

For the past six months or so, a novel coronavirus has been making its way around the globe. It passes from human to human primarily via droplets exhaled or otherwise expelled from an infected human. The virus enters a new host via conduits like the airways, eyes, etc.

This particular virus can cause various health issues including death.

If one takes steps to minimize their contact and/or spread of said droplets (e.g. wearing masks, washing hands, social distancing) this reduces the probability of infected individuals spreading the virus and likewise reduces the probability of uninfected individuals from contracting it (and thus furthering the spread).

When you have individuals, like the individual described in this thread, who ignore these measures they increase their personal risk of contracting, spreading, and potentially suffering health consequences of the disease. In this specific case, it killed them.

This is the current situation in the United States as efforts to ignore, downplay and undermine protective measures from the virus are leading to surges in cases, hospitalizations, and increasing fatalities in a number of states.

If more people took this virus seriously and took protective measures (including wearing of masks), the U.S. would not be in this situation. Perhaps this particular individual wouldn't be dead.

Is that sufficiently clear?

This is where you may be wrong or may be right. You have no idea, but you know what you want to believe. It's just a bit funny to me because you atheist and agnostic types are always about "I demand evidence! I won't believe anything without sufficient evidence." But then when there's something you want to believe, it's like, "oh yeah, dude died because he didn't have a mask on, obviously". When all we have are posts from April, which is when the government was still saying "don't wear masks", or shortly thereafter, I forget. So sure, go ahead and make the deceased a propaganda toy. Fine.

Until you mentioned "atheist" I had no idea of the religious orientation of the OP---which makes absolutely no difference whatsoever to the fact that this virus wrecks havoc in the human body. Autopsies have shown that it leaves many---sometimes 1000's---of small clots all over the body. It affects the flow of blood to the brain which may be why some of these people are having hallucinations. Some of the problems last for months and are sometimes permanent. The virus does not take into account the religious believes of the afflicted. The very religious have gotten it just as have those that haver no religious notions whatsoever---such as babies. It does not matter to this virus whether somebody believes in the virus or not. The virus doesn't care if you have 3 Phd's or don't have the sense of a brain damaged sheep. It seems that the best thing to do is get all of the unbelievers in the virus, or the masks, all together and once they are gone, maybe the world can get back to normal.

You quoted a post where I said he died from health consequences of contracting the virus. Which is exactly what his obit says. So I'm not sure what you're going on about?
I seem to recall us discussing masks...?
