Hello everyone! I hope everyone is doing good! :)

I am obeying God, praising and thanking him, reading my Bible almost everyday, going to church, hearing his word through preachers, and praying to him. I am doing this right? Is this a relationship with God?

I wish God would talk to me like I talk to other people. :(

It helps when you overcome a bit of adversity together; and it helps even more when you go on to tick off BIG life goals in His name.

You'll only really notice that with daily communication. Give yourself a bit of time in the day to just sit quietly NOT thinking, not reading and not talking. Because it's one thing to pray, but something else to LISTEN. There's a difference.

It's all about daily practise. You'll never become a musician if you don't practise your chords. Same rules apply. You're building a mosaic, not a Lego building.

What you have is the correct way to relate to God. As for communication on a soul to soul level, I have never really experienced that with God. I have had Him communicate His will to me in difficult situations, but as for chatting to God, it has never really worked for me.

I am not discouraging communication, if you can have that experience then that is fine.

You sound like you are doing a lot of reaching out. The word is how Yahweh speaks to us. Also through that still small voice in our spirit. Pray for understanding to know our Father more intimately. Pray to have ears to hear His voice. Also know that you hear Him best when you are still and your mind is clear. Blessings!

Almost. You forgot to mention of coming to Him daily as a needy sinner in need of His grace and mercy...

Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
(Heb 4:16)

He does as long as we don't put him into some box, and try to do spiritual gymnastics to please him. He's easy to know, (as easy as reading the gospels) There is no special formula. A million people he can meet a million ways. He meets us where we're at. Be yourself. God bless.

Faith712 thanks for the greeting. Hope you are doing well, too.

Don't know of a set formula.to establish a relationship with the Lord. But when we consider forming relationships with others, we get to know them and vice versa. To help us, we can study God's names, titles, and attributes. There are lists online. I select sites that include the Scriptural bases so I can check them out for accuracy. On the other hand, we know God knows all about us. It's important for us to know what God thinks about us such as "The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing." Zep 3:17 Jesus said: "I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me." (John 17:23) Plus the ultimate display of God's love for us by Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection. (John 3:16).

We dont want to empty our minds but meditate/focus on God and His Word. We can spend some time being still yet listening and thinking about God or a Scripture (PSA 46:10)..In forming relationship with Him, we're to pray without ceasing. I see that as keeping Him in the forefront of our minds. We acknowledge that He is holy, love, faithful, merciful,, wisdom, truth, - well, there's too many to list here. What an opportunity we have to praise and worship our Lord.

In regards to hearing God, for Adam and Eve 'And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day..." (Gen 3:8). For us- "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:" (John 10 :27). Recommend listening to Dr Robert Morris on Hearing God's voice on youtube. Any of his teachings are Biblically based. The Gateway church online has a lot of his sermons available.

Confess your sins before the Lord. When we finally realize that even the very thoughts we think per day are filthy before God and we confess them, removing all that He does not approve of in our thoughts, words and deeds and maintaining a pure heart then that will be quiet a victory for us. When He comes to judge us and we stand before Him naked and will not be ashamed then that is the greatest thing we could ever ask for.

I am sure God is pleased that you are desiring a relationship with Him. He is there listening, watching and waiting for you to realize the relationship has already begun and will grown as you share. He is speaking to you thru His word. You are beginning to know Him and learn about Him as you study His word. The best description and understanding of God I have found is in the last chapter of Job. This is when Job realizes that even though Job was a righteous man and refused to speak against God, Job had never really truly known God and the fullness of his relationship to God until Job had been through all his troubles and God fully revealed Himself to Job. In my experience it takes experiencing God and walking and talking with Him that builds the relationship. A relationship with God is just like any other relationship it grows with shared experiences and spending time together. At first it is a “I believe” relationship, then it is a trust relationship and then faith comes and becomes real and grows. I pray that God will let you see and hear Him. Most wonderful of all to me is to smell the presence of God and to feel His presence. This of course is spiritual not physical. Your spirit will soar with Him, delight in Him, trust and obey Him; this grows your relationship. I pray for God to hear your prayers as you come to Him-Abba Father- humbling yourself in confession of your needy condition and sharing of your desires and love for Him and all that He is. I really like reading the Genesis creation story and then Psalms 24, where God reminds me that He owns everything and I am to lift up my eyes, ears and heart to Him. I am praying for you to find the desire of your heart and to know the fullness of a relationship with God that leaves no room for doubt or despair. Blessings to you.
